NFL Week 1 Leans

Had a great NFL season last year.  Have had several great NFL years in a row now.  Looking for it to continue.  I must admit the NFL is probably the hardest sport to predict, but I'm good at it.

Several Plays I'm looking at as of now.  Week 1 leans:

Seattle Seahawks +2 - I think with a healthy Hasselbeck that this might be the team to beat in the division.  I think the Seahawks make a turn around this season.  I'm not underselling the 9ers at all but I do believe that this will be a tough game for them to win.  Especially in that environment.  Very tough place to play.  I like the Seahawks to win this game.

Carolina Panthers +7 - Very skeptikal about this game.  I do believe that Carolina should be able to move the ball on the ground and control the clock.  Quarterback play seems a little shaky at this time, but they will get it figured out.  I think 7 is giving the Giants a little to much credit.  I think eating up this chalk is the right play.  Might watch the Panthers a few more times before I pull the trigger on this game.

Cincinnati Bengals +5.5 - I think that the Bengals go into New England and steal this one.  Obviously, I'm a Bengals fan, but I did a great job on Bengals games last season.  I think they make a statement here and go in to Foxboro and steal one.  The offense should be clicking by then.  I think this becomes the best game of week 1 but I think the Bengals steal it from New England.

Cleveland Browns +3 - I think we have a situation here were Cleveland is actually the better team.  I think Delhomme's veteran leadership gets them this win on the road.  Freeman has broken a finger on his throwing hand, should be ready for this game, but I don't think its enough.  They did take this game off the board, but it was already on my radar with or without Freeman.  I think Cleveland is the better team and on a neutral site would be 4.5 point favorites.  Cleveland goes in and takes a win here.

Green Bay Packers -1 - I'm thinking that the Eagles might have a bit of a down year this season.  I think Green Bay is turning into one of the best teams in the NFL.  Would probably lay up to 3 in this spot.  I think the Eagles have their hands full in this game.  Rodgers is slowly becoming the best passer in the league.  This one actually could get ugly.

Tennessee Titans -6.5 - I think this is one of those fishy lines.  I don't think the Titans necessarily deserve to be 6.5 point favorites, but they do.  This has blowout written all over it.  I think Oakland is going to be greatly improved this season.  I just think they get run out of the building in this game, litterally.  CJ should have a big day, VY has been a good leader and the best fit for the Titans, I think they win by 2 scores in this one.

Remember all of these games are leans at this point.  As unless I deem it completely necessary probably won't make a play until week 4 of the preseason.  I'm still looking at every game.  I have a couple of other games on my radar.   Kansas City +5.5 is staring at me and begging me to play.  Minnesota +3.5 is also looking at me.  Thinking I might be getting a little dog happy this first week.  Could bite me in the ass.

Why are the Bears laying 7?

Whodey - I got tix to Notre Dame-Navy in the New Meadowlands on October 23.  Awesome seats on 50 yard line. Can't wait.

Sounds good man have a good time.  I might try to get to an Irish game this year.  Trying to figure out if I can do it or not.  I'm in college and all so its a little tough.

Hey lets have another great year.  I started off Saturday 7-0 ATS....the football gods were smiling down on me, because I usually NEVER BET preseason, but thought...what the heck...I am at the book and will try a little.

Hey I think your assesement of the Bengals in WK 1 could be very right on.  I think the D will stand up and if the offense is clicking good by then, we should be able to come out of Foxborro with a W.

Keep up the good work bro, and lets stick it to the books this year again.

 

Congrats on the good day Saturday.  Should be a good season.  I believe the Bengals do go in there and win that game.  I almost feel as it is a must win for the Bengals.  Might be in a tough spot with Baltimore Ravens on deck.  I'm extremely excited about the season.  Can't wait for it to get underway. 

Hey Whodey, How's it goin man?  Yeah I got Tenn and Car on my tenative week 1 Top 3, not sure on NE/Cincy kinda thinking NE there, but probably will choose another game.  Well GL, and nice to see you on Car & Tenn

It's going.  Yeah I like both Tennessee and Carolina as of now.  I really think that Cincinnati goes in and wins that game in New England.  It's a statement game and I think the Bengals will have a good game plan.  I think they match up well with New England and I think they handle business.  As long as the Bengals stop the run I think that New England struggles to move the ball without being able to run.  If the Bengals can try and tee off on Brady, he could have a long day. 

Hey Speaking of the Bengals, how do you feel about Benson this year?  I'm thinking he may take a step back this year, considering last year was a contract year, and he got a big deal, are you worried he may do the same thing he did to bears?   Also, are you thinking the D will be as strong, I'm wondering if they can match the same intensity as last year, with Zimmer wife and all etc..  I do think they will improve in passing the ball though.  Well, just wondering your outlook at this point, as you seem to know the bengals better than any capper here.

I think the defense is actually going to be better than they were last season.  I think they have a lot of depth in the secondary.  I believe that Joseph and Hall are by far the best tandem in the NFL.  Pacman has played well this preseason in coverage and in the special teams game, I think he is a good staple for the defense.  The difference between this defense I believe is the depth they have every where.  Not only that they have a couple of specialty players that look like they might have more of a permanent role on the defense.  They moved Michael Johnson to OLB, he is an absolute freak of nature and could be a 3rd down rush specialist and has the speed to cover when needed.  Although he won't start he should get a ton of playing time.  When they drafted Geno Atkins in the 4th round this year I got extremely excited.  I thought he was a perfect fit for the Bengals when they drafted him.  In the preseason he has been unblockable thus far.  He has I believe 3.5 sacks in just 3 games.  Which is pretty good.  I think they have a lot of depth at DT, Corner, Safety and Linebacker.  DE is a bit of a concern but I think even if Geathers or Odom went down this season that they would have very capable replacements.  Frostee Rucker, Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson seem to be all capable of stepping in and taking on more of a role.  I think Michael Johnson is going to be a force on defense this season.  He flys to the ball and he's so fast and big he's pretty much unblockable.  Love that guy.  I think they are deeper in every aspect on defense, I actually think they improve because I think they are intent on getting more pressure on the QB, leads to 1. Sacks 2.  Turnovers.  3.  Turnovers.  Turnovers are huge and I think, if the preseason is any inclination, that they will cause many.

I don't think Benson will have as good of a season no, but I think he will get some of the pressure taken off of him.  I think his YPC will go up, I think he will have less carries as I think the passing game will be more prevalent this season.  Also think Bernard Scott gets his fair share of carries, I think Benson's role will be diminished, but just because I think the passing game will be used more.  Gresham will be a great fit in the offense and I think Scott will spell Benson much more.

Panthers fan eh.  Clausen needs to get a shot to start one of these preseason games.  He's better than Moore already.  Whoever the damn back up center is for Carolina is awful, can't even get the damn ball back to Clausen.  I think he should start one of the preseason games to see what he can do.  I think everyone would be surprised to see he is better and more capable than Moore already.

That Seahawk Offensive Line did not look good against the Packers on Saturday.    They couldn't run the ball at all.    And now Okung is hurt.    Just something I noticed while watching the game.     Forsett and Jones?    Not impressed.   

The Packers we're the best team in the league against the run last year though.

Hasselback,  I don't know about him either.    Almost seems like they would rather play Whitehurst up there.

Not dissing your pick.  Just information.   

Yeah I know your not...Okung should be ready for the opener though.  I do think that their defense will be decent, and Hasselbeck played fairly well.  I think he plays well because he knows that Whitehurst is on his ass.  I'm not impressed with Julius Jones either, I think he has been on the downslide for a while, however, I think Forsett will be a good player in the league.  I like the mixture of recievers that the Seahawks have.  With Tate, Housh, Branch and have always been a fan of Carlson as a TE.  For obvious reasons, plus I think he will be a good option for Hasselbeck.  I think Seattles defense is going to be  a good defense.  I love their linebackers and I think their secondary has a good mix of veterans and young guys.  Defensive line is a bit of a concern but I do like the upside that Red Bryant has.  I think he is better fit to be a defensive end, rather than a defensive tackle.
