MrBator: You have less brain that I first thought. You are soo wrong about, "Letting him play in the team's next game sends the unmistakable message that skipping practice with no phone call is acceptable"
It sends the message that you have to put football in place of family.. It makes the players lose respect for the management, which creates very bad team morale. It will divide the team, players vs management.. " A kingdom divided amongst itself, will surley fall".
Tampa on the other hand..Gruden gave Bryant the decision if he wants to play or not when his 3 month old son died last week .. I like that, it sends good feelings if you're other players on the team.. To know if your family is hurting, we all feel your pain.. Not bash you on the head, take your paycheck, and make you look like a selfish cold hearted-beast

Now you're making sense. Thank goodness, you had me worried there!
Wow, of course thats the only part of that post you comment on. You know I am right, but you won't admit it because you have too big of an Ego. I just saw something that it was a Domestic Dispute... probably something similar to Vince Young.. You know you're famous when your mom is famous because of you. Wouldn't you have rather left that out of the media if you were vince?
The NFL overreacted and will disgard the suspension.. you will see, they will do the right thing

But you already thought I was brainless. How could it get worse than having no brain?
Although this could very well explain why I've bet on the Cleveland Browns every week so far this season.

the family emergency was his wife had finally agreed to a 3-some, but the only female she'd consent to being the 3rd party was only available that 1 day for the rest of this year (imminent, already paid for trip departure otherwise upon her). He was unavailable for contact due to having 2 poontangs at his mercy at the time.

1. The domestic abuses were stated as having nothing to due with his suspension by the Giants and the media...although Domestic Abuse in and off itself makes him a grad A SCUMBAG.
2. Barry, the Gruden example is irrelevant to the plax question. Gruden knew before the game and before practice that Bryant had this tragedy and gave him the option. Plax never told anyone and like a "child in school" (using your example) he made up the best excuse possible.."the dog ate my homework". If it was a true emergency the media would have unearthed it by now. By your own admission, you agree that these "Stars" (definitely do not agree with the star characterization) have their entire lives recorded and reported...so where is this emergency....it's crap.
3. Mostly everyone here agrees that family comes first but there are still common courtesies that when being part of a team, business, or community is expected of you...like telephoning when you will be unable to show up. Its common sense. In very limited circumstances (an unexpected death, accident, etc) this can be waived.
4. Finally, there is no way that Buress is smart...nothing in his history that I have been notified of or read shows anything except an ignorant child.

T-Unit: It was an EMERGENCY, just like in school, you're supposed to get a pass to go to the bathroom, but if you GOTTA GO, YOU GO!
And goodluck, the last thing they will do is terminate their best player that gets them wins, which is return fills up the stadium, which is return can make ticket prices go up.
This is a bad move by the NFL, they are just getting power hungry rather than trying to be understandable people.. not to mention they get $50,000.00 for this (hmm I wonder what they do with that money?)
YOU MUST HAVE HIM ON YOUR FANASTY TEAM...ALL HE HAD TO DO IS CALL

I think I've figured this one out, guys. Some time in Barry Dingle's history, his wife called him at work and said she was leaving him for the pool boy. Barry left work to race home before she could say anything else. Barry's boss said, "what a loser, I am firing this guy." Now Barry Dingle associates his divorce with anyone who says they have a "family emergency".

Burress is just another ghetto punk that thinks he doesnt have to answer to no one. He is paid MILLIONS of dollars by the giants. That alone entitles him to report when ever they want him to. He did not even bother to pick up a phone. I am sick of these overpaid little girls that want to act a fool at there disposal. The punishment fit the crime. What happens at our jobs if we no call or no show. we are FIRED.

1.) . You said, "The domestic abuses were stated as having nothing to due with his suspension by the Giants and the media".. what does that mean? the reason he didn't pick up his phone is because he was having a domestic issue, I heard with his wife Tiffany which got so out of hand, football was the last thing on his mind.. Apparently you and most people on this site have the perfect, leave it to beaver, type family who never argues or has problems..
2.) Your assumption that because the media hasn't "unearthed" the situation it must be bullshit. but i say thats bullshit.. I'm sure you know how to spell assume, but please, leave me out of. The reason it's not in the public is because (answer to #4) he's smarter than that, he has more respect for his family then to blurt to the world his "Private Matters", as stated by coughlin. Would you want your most private family issues the topic of discussion when you go to work the next day? To have your family on the front page of every enquirer magazine.. Just for a minute try to picture this, and you might understand.
The NFL is in a tough situation now.. They can't just take back what they did, even that they know they're wrong, because it would make them look easy. However, I still do believe they will do the right thing, you will see

Wendy'sRocks: In a way you're correct, your specific situation made me laugh, but is far from the truth. I have had domestic disputes before, and they aren't the prettiest things in the world, so in a way, I can relate to the situation a bit..
Either I'm just a bit more honest then everyone else on covers, or everyone must be living in Pleasant Ville but me

NFL Picker: Good argument.. However we (the public) do not know what exactly the Family Emergency consisted of. Obviously it was important and thats why it won't be made public. Sometimes there are things much more important than calling your boss to give him some peace of mind when your house is burning down and you have to save your children..
Whether he had really bad diareahha and couldn't call the coach to let him know he's gotta go to the bathroom or he will slip his pants, or if its saving his family from a burning building he should be excused. not punished
The point of this post is to express how Rediculous I think the NFL is getting.. From not letting players spike the ball after a touchdown, to not letting them take care of family emergencies that coincidentally happen during practice..
Afterall, Emergencies don't happen when you expect them too, just like a thief in the night, it happens when you least expect it.
You seem to have the same "smarts" as Burress. With all the available avenues of communication, he couldnt make it known he had a "FAMILY EMERGENCY"? Give me a break.

Not uncommon for people on this site to be wrong. You forgot to mention Dallas is my co-favorite team because I agree with Terrel Owens also.
It doesn't matter though, I made my point, I even Silenced the well respected MrBator.
Burress would rather take a fine and suspension then putting his family out in the open to be torn apart by the media.. its a shame he gets punished for this

kinda reminds me of the time Allen Iverson went off in his interview about being fined/suspended from the Sixers saying " Practice! We are talking about PRACTICE! " Pampered superstars need to be put in place, TO or Moss or whomever. No place for it in team sports. How many family emergencies are you gonna be allowed per season? Plex has no credibility due to past behaviors.
