Sure, Cutler has more talent. However, look at his character. He just screwed Denver. What makes anyone think that he won't be an ass in Chicago?

Right or wrong, he screwed Denver because he was pissed they were looking to trade him after he went to the Pro Bowl.  I don't think the Bears will have that problem.

Late first rounder next year?  With what, their 30th ranked pass defense that they didn't improve at ALL this winter?  Bears will be lucky to be 3rd in the division next year.
 
You saw what Cutler did with GOOD receivers and a crap defense in Denver......8-8 and missed the playoffs.  And don't tell me the Bears are in much better shape then Denver was last year.  Denver also played in a division with KC and Oakland....two doormats.  And they couldn't make the playoffs. 
 
Not to mention, Denver had two very solid WR's to go along with a pretty darn good running game.
 
And saying a 3rd round choice and a 5th round choice are basically the same thing is irresponsible.

If Cutler were leaving school today he would be OVERALL NUMBER ONE --- Young franchise qbs simply do not get traded in todays nfl. denver can have their 18th overall pick and a mid to late first rounder next year (freeing up around 8 million/yr for the bears). Keep in mind that cutler is still under his rookie deal FOR THREE MORE YEARS. the bears will have enough cap space to grab a servicable receiver.

Columbo have been very serviceable, once out of a Bears uniform. Protecting Romo, nowadays, right?
 
Haynes. Uggh.
 
Tommie Harris. Probably the best draftee. But a lil bit of a primadonna in some ways. Or maybe his sense of humor is  very very dry.
 
Cedric Benson. Big time bust.
 
Greg Olsen. Haven't lived up to expectations but he is playing behind 2 other TE's, let alone 3 of 'em.
 
Chris Williams. Not too shabby. A nice interception in the Super Bowl but overall not that great of a Bear. But the Panthers found him quite serviceable.

Yes sir, I'm a bears fan and if the vikings had gotten jay cutler i would be upset also......I understand the bashing of this pick by a vikings fan!!

Listen this is really simple......The vikings, Packers, Lions fans can talk about this being a bad trade or that we gave up to much but facts are facts those teams would be lying out of there ass if they would not kill to have jay cutler.....

I mean look at the vikings do you honestly think that they would have traded with houston for sage had they known that cutler would have been available.........I think not!!!!!

Bump all those up by a year.  Jury still out on Williams.  He hardly played last year due to injury.  Good bet that he will turn out pretty good.  Olson is pretty good and getting better.  He can be one of the best receiving TE's and with Cutler I think he may well become that.  Benson a bust.  Tommie Harris was a pro bowler.  Didn't have a great year last year, but he has been great most of the time.  Haynes I don't hardly remember.  Colombo was a bit iffy.  Anyway, 3 of his last 4 picks may work out.  And Olson and Williams were late picks.

I think its funny people saying we gave up too much.......we got a 25 year old PROBOWL QB...........he can throw for 700 yds less than last year and have the best season ever for a Bear.......not that i expect him to break the record but he has shown the ability to do just that..........
 
Go back and watch the games from last year a more accurate qb can make a huge difference add the extra arm strength and maybe we let Hester go a few more times a game......a few less three and outs maybe=rested D....
 
Say what you want they got 7 or 8 picks left and still have a 3rd rounder with the comp picks.......they have wasted plenty of 1st rounders looking for a qb and rb...so if 1/3 of the 1st round picks are complete busts,id say they came out ahead...........They now have a young core there to build with if nothing else........25yr old probowl QB and last years ROTY runner up in Forte not to mention they save some cap not having to sign an unproven player in the 1st
 
Grossman,Salaam,Enis,Benson,Columbo,Thomas,Terrell,Mcclown......what are we missing out in the 1st round again?
Thats all in the lst 13 yrs......its not like 1st round =probowl player so we gave up two firsts and got a QB....

Awful trade!!!!  You had Cassels dangling out there for a mere 2nd rounder.  Granted Cutler is younger and proven more, the Bears have sacrificed way too much

Why does everyone assume late first round next year. So we automatically crown them superbowl champs and give Denver 32 nd pick in draft. I will tell u where my money will be at under total of wins for chicago. BECAUSE that wins/losses total will be so inflated it will be ridiculous. PEOPLE forget orton did not play all that bad. he WASNT  great but he wasnt bad either.  there DEFENSE suck. it will be just like being in DENVER all over again. but he will not have shannahan to back him up with all the play calling. only time will tell but this will set the bears back a few years.  with 4 first rounders 2 will become studs 1 a dud and 1 average. i think that is better than a cry baby for quarterback.   make sure u bet DENVER wins/losses over the total when it comes out because it will be majorly deflated.  man i cant wait for football season

Please enough with this nonsense about " they sacraficed way to much"... What the 18th player pick this year ??? A late first round pick 50 % chance of bust or marginal player at best.. Take the money you save on the first round pick put it aside,  then cut a low end player and now you have room and cash for a top end  free agent  who has less of a flop chance.. Repeat next year... Listen a couple of other points i want to make. First if jay cutler were in this years draft he would be the overall #1 pick in the draft so the bears traded the 18th, 84th, and some where in the 20's next year for the overall #1 pick this year not a bad trade at all no matter what anyone says...

Also have been reading where those on this forum are basically given coach mcdaniels a pass of some kind because he has a couple of super bowl rings. Listen people he was and assistant means nothing look notre dame wishes they could get rid of charlie weiss and romeo crennel 3 years with the browns fired eric mangini 4 years with the jets fired.......And trust me mcdaniels will be fired within 3 years also!!!!! So those that are saying this please stop making fools of yourself..........

im just worried about the protection for cutler. He's been around a good o-line, with 2 pretty good receivers. Jerry Angelo better be making more moves to improve on the offense.  Also our defense either really sucked because of the play calling or the players abilities to stop the offense under pressure situation.  Bears really sucked in stopping the 3rd and longs.  Therefore, I really hope Cutler is the QB everyone expects him to be....(in my opinoin without any good receivers Cutler will suffer)

With all this in mind, I spent an hour watching Cutler in the famous Hochuli game against the Chargers in Week 2.  Cutler's a gunslinger.  A known commodity, warts and all.  In my opinion, he's worth the freight.  Good trade for the Bears. 

Also, it's a great deal for Cutler.  The Bronco D was only slightly better than the Lions.

Keep in mind a lot of Cutler's problems this season came from his diabetes.  I assume that will be under control with proper medication this year.
