I thought in college you could be in the endzone as long as the ball didn't cross the plane.

Don't quote me though; this is just off the top of my head.

okay....well the dumb NCAA being what it is, you have to pay to read it so F that...

 

talked to Ant, he said there definitly is something different but he isn't sure what it is....

Otis would know...i'm calling him tomorrow lol

 

Dan said what you said yesterday that you can go into the endzone and comeback out....but I don't think thats what it is

why be in the endzone if the ball doesent cross the plane? hes talking about the ball going into the endzone and then having the player bat it back into the field of play which cant happen

isn't he asking whether a member of the kicking team can be touching the endzone and bat the ball back into play?

manram--are you just asking if the ball breaks the plane of the goal then the ball is dead and a touch back?

i never said that. im not even sure if you can do that. to me thats the same as going out of bounds and being the first one to catch the ball. something you cant do so i dont think thats right either

this was on wikipedia.. i have no idea if this is what you mean

In college football, if a defensive player gains possession of the ball during a play, between his own five-yard line and goal line, and the player's original momentum carries him into the end zone, there is no touchback. Instead, the ball is dead at the point where possession changed. In the National Football League, this rule applies only to pass interceptions (regardless of whether they occur inside the five-yard line).

The rules are different, I know that for sure. I am pretty sure that in college as long as the ball is still in the air can you be in the end zone and bat the ball back to another player who has established himself outside the goal line. In NFL, you are not allowed to even have a toe on the goal line and must be established outside the goal line to down the ball. If the ball hits the goal or the endzone it doesn't matter because then it is a touchback. I am about 80% sure on this

To clarify about college, you can touch the endzone but then you have to be in the air when you bat the ball back. Again i am pretty sure that is the rule but I could be wrong

i have no problem with that. yesterday you were saying a guys can stand in the endzone and bat it back into play from in the endzone. you cant so that

I actually believe that in college you can have one foot within the plane of the endzone and bat the ball back in, I'll check it as well. I think you're right Powerade

The difference..

In college it has to do with the position of the ball...if any part of the ball crosses the invisible plane of the goal line, and the receiving team does not attempt to field the ball, once the ball crosses the   plane of the goal line then it is a touchback (regardless of where the kicking team players are.) The play is effectively dead once the ball touches the line

In pro, they allow the ball to cross the plane of the goal line or sidelines and to be batted back into the field of play if the player batting the ball has made no contact with the sidelines or endzone during the entire course of the play following the punt.
