The NFL is a company with a $10BN revenue. $6BN annually alone from TV broadcasts.
Put the name "NFL" aside and ask yourself a question: if you were the CEO of a company with $10BN revenue, wouldn't you do everything possible to make your product(s) more profitable? Do you think that every company in the world works clean?
The NFL sells a product and sometimes they help to make the product more profitable.
ESPN pays $110M for each Monday Night Football game. How does ESPN generate profit? By showing 60-80 ads per game. They have to give their customers certain guarantees for ratings. How do you keep people interested in the game? By entertainment. People keep watching a game if unexpected things happen. If the home favorite who is expected to win, wins by 24 after the third, they are likely to switch channels.
What happened in 2015? Of the 14 home favs, only two covered and 7 lost straight up. Of the 14 games, 11 have been decided by one score with 9 straight to finish the season. Overall, favs went 2-13-1 ATS on MNF with 12 one-score finishes.
What happened on Thursday Night Football? Out of 16 games, 11 have been decided by one single score. That's entertainment. Twitter bought the rights to broadcast Thursday Night Football games in 2016. Companies will go crazy paying for ads. You can expect the one-score rate atleast not to drop.

The Super Bowl?
Well, Denver had an All-World defense
Held Newton under 50% passing
Held Stewart to 29 yards rushing
Caused 4 fumbles, recovered 3, and an interception.
Had 1/2 the penalties, and 1/2 the penalty yardage
Went 3/3 on field goals
Got 90 yards rushing from Anderson, which was huge.
Despite the "script", Denver was 1-for-4 in the Red Zone
I don't think 141 yards, ZERO td, a pick, and 5 sacks is a very good script for Manning, but the Broncos didn't need much from Manning, and that is what they got.

Well that does tell us everything we need to know. You have to be right because we all know SI would NEVER print anything that's not true. Come on...you have to have a better leg to stand on. I've gambled on and watched enough games to know that some (not all) games are at least INFLUENCED not necessarily fixed.

I don't dislike you at all really, mafioso. You poked at me, I poked back, or vise versa. I don't hold arbitrary grudges and overall I actually find many of your posts to be entertaining and purposeful. With that said, my stance on the fix has always been more centered around the implausibility of people carrying out these fixes without screwing up, getting caught, squeeling, etc. Many humans are incompetent by nature and if given complicated tasks will often fail in some way. This alone tells me players are not involved as most would agree they are likely not the sharpest tools in the shed. It also is not plausible to me why the league would care who I wager my money on as they make about a gazillion dollars in TV & merchandizing revenue. This in my mind narrows down the list of fixing suspects to perhaps a few rogue individuals, of which I have never denied as a possibility. My personal handicapping strategy has nothing to do with fixes, stats or x's & o's, but rather I try to always be on the opposite side of what I believe is the public perception. If a line seems to short, it probably isn't. If a line seems to large, it probably isn't. If a line seems to easy, it probably isn't. I will typically handicap an entire weeks slate of games in about 30 seconds. The only fix I see is the one oddsmakers apply to our minds.
