I hate to use the word 'corruption' but there is documented corruption in a lot of organized religion, corruption in academics, corruption in governments and corporations, and an on going investigation into corruption in FIFA - I won't even mention there has been some corruption in US based sports.
To think that there isn't a little corruption in the NFL, the multi billion dollar industry that it is, by NFL execs (not 'Vegas') to keep their industry interesting and entertaining is a bit naive.
Does that mean games are scripted like WWF? Hell no! But comeback wins, close(r) games, spectacular 2 minute drills and such and a little ref support for larger franchise (read popular) teams are in the best interest not only for the industry but for us as well, from an entertainment standpoint, which is really what the NFL is - entertainment.
Look at most every movie about sporting teams or athletes (think Rocky or the Champ) and every single time the protagonist team/athelete comes back after being down to win.
How boring would it have been for Rocky to pound every opponent in the ring? By the same token what is the percentage of fans who want to see Houston or Tennessee in every superbowl and then what is that percentage for the Cowboys or Packers? A best of 7 series sweep vs game 7? Game 7 comeback after one of the teams was in a 0-2 or 1-3 hole?
There are a lot of wishy washy sports fans who will not watch a MLB world series between mid tier teams, unlike us who have major interest in just about every major sporting event depending on the odds - ditto NFL/NBA/NHL
