Can we talk about the game management of ATL last night?

Beyond me how that coach still has a job this morning. I don’t think I have ever in my life seen a worse managed game than what I saw from the falcons last night. This is is the stuff that really goes to make you think this league is pre determined. Hear me out. 

kirk cousins. A veteran qb who I understand had some interception issues this season. But he is still the veteran leader who brought this falcons team to a hunt for the playoffs. Shortly off of a 344 yard passing game vs the Vikings he is benched for a rookie quarterback Penix. Did Atlanta really think benching their veteran leader for a rookie qb at the end of the season mid playoff hunt was a good idea? His first road start ever happened to be the biggest game of the season?

why on earth would you bench your qb in the middle of a playoff hunt for a rookie who hasn’t seen a road game yet? idk man just looks like to me the league told atl to dive to commanders could get in. Look back in history and tell me any rookie qb who has came in like penix did at a time like penix did and actually succeeded. 

if that Atlanta coach isn’t fired by the end of the night tonight I am convinced the league had some sort of hand in atlantas decision to sit cousins. 

is this Kirk Cousins' account?  please tell me it is.  maybe a relative?  otherwise any sane football fan knows Kirk is completely washed up and has no business starting for the Falcons.  1 TD and 9 INT in his final 5 games and he KILLED THE TEAM.  so many times ATL could have won where Kirk turned the ball over at such a terrible time to steal a victory from the Falcons.

Penix is far and away the right option and the future of this team.

That being said, the coach and player last night didnt manage the clock well.  I dont blame Penix one bit.  Its only his second start and something he can learn from. Morris blew it

Cousins was so bad against the Raiders they had to pull him....

With him last night they get buried....he had lost the team....

Cousins struggled in the second half. He threw just one touchdown compared to nine interceptions over a five-game stretch prior to being benched, the Falcons went 1-4 in those games. Who would let that trash continue when you're in the hunt?

You should put in your resume for head coach position!!! Sounds like you could win the next superbowl!!!

I have no issues with them moving on from Cousins as the team needed something- Cousins play was atrocious and the offense was terrible even with the skill players around the QB.

Coaching issues.  Last night not using a time out on the last drive is Eberflus desk… Seriously he looked lost on the sidelines, not sure what to do. They most likely will not make the playoffs this year and I’d be shocked if he’s still the coach next season.

Coaching issues - Watch the good offenses in the NFL.  Watch the motion and the play calling.  Atlanta has very good players at the skilled positions but their design is like Dallas - very outdated and vanilla.  IMO a change is needed especially now with a new QB at the helm to start next year

Decisions like this are never made unless the locker-room is in on it. He most certainly had the locker room buy in.

easier decision to make when you realize Cousins is a douche, and Penix seems to be a good teammate.

Everyone who is for this decision clearly knows 0 about the history of the nfl and rookie qbs over the last decade.

i can not name 1 quarterback in the last 30 years that was thrown into a playoff hunt as a rookie and came out successful. 

Hypothetical: so if tell you to pick heads or tails. And then tell you I’ve flipped tails the last 23/24 times what are you going to pick?

 Brock Purdy was pretty successful as a rookie QB thrown into the mix.

Oh yeah it’s all kirks fault. How about the 3 missed kicks by koo in the New Orleans loss? Or the 4 missed kicks by him in the 4 game losing stretch. It also has nothing to do with Atlanta letting up 260+ yards in the air through 3/4 of those losses either. 

I acknowledged the guy had a bad stretch. But the fact of the matter is he is the veteran that has been there and done that. He’s played in meaningful games, road games, playoff games. And they turn away from him during an important stretch like this just doesn’t make sense to me. 

literally all you have to do is look at the history of the nfl and rookie qb’s but ur all so caught up on the fact he was 1-4 through 5 games

Cousins is having issues with his Achilles injury. He can't step into throws properly and lost a ton of velocity on his passes...it was really really bad at the start of the season. Hasn't got much better, so they sat him down

At least Bill Belichick would have had enough common sense to use one of his time outs to get that field goal kick closer. Raheem is a below 500 career coach, I don’t know why Atlanta thought he was the guy. And yes, making Penix the starter is absolutely the right move
