49ers vs. Lions -4. Why I think the Lions get the job done.

I have been a long-time lurker and deicded to finally post my write-up.  Feel free to share your opinion

I think one of the big keys in this game is how each team's defense gets pressure on the QB. When you just look at the stat's you will see that both teams have 12 sacks this year.  These teams get pressure on the QB in different ways though.  San Fran relies on blitzes to get pressure on the QB.  Only 5.5 out of their 12 sacks have come from players on the DL.  10 of Detroit's 12 sacks have came from their DL.  Detroit's front 4 allows them to create heavy pressure on the QB while keeping 7 players in coverage which is a huge advantage.

San Fran's receiving options will be limited this week with Morgan and Edwards out and I think it will be tough for these second-rate WRs to get open with 7 players in coverage.  San Fran's OL has already given up 14 sacks this year while Detroit's has given up 4.

San Fran's defense has struggled both times they have faced an above-average QB this year.  Romo and Vick were both able to beat the blitz and eat up the 49ers D.  I expect Stafford to be able to do the same.

Romo 20/33 345 yds 2 TDs (missed most of the 3rd qtr with the rib injury)

Vick 30-46 416 yards 2 TDs 1 INT

Gotta agree with what you said bro where are you getting -4? The Lions are getting hammered and I thought it was 5.5....anyways, ya the Lions match up great against the 49ers....basically any team that can throw the ball should have success against them....we'll see though the Lions are'nt a PERFECT 5-0 if you know what I mean

I originally thought this game might be the right play with the 49ers.  But the more I think about this game and how I see it playing out is #1 we are gonna do what we do on offense and put up 20-30 points.  Will 49ers do the same?  I think they will have a very tough time moving the ball.  Frank Gore has had success against us in the past but this is a new Lions team, granted new 49ers team also.  But Gore will get the majority of the workload in this game I do believe.  I think Detroit knows it and will prepare and let that Smith guy try to beat them.  Really this is what made me NOT over think this game.  Its ALEX SMITH!!  With NO valuable wr's.  Smith has proven that he CAN be a average QB.  He has not even proven that he is only that he can be.   So if we can shut down Gore all day then I dont see 49ers scoring more than 17.  Other side we score 20+ with ease.  Based on that I will take the Leo's!

The UNDER is worth a look in this game.

You apparently have no clue how our Detroit Lions work.  Schwartz has said it himself.  If your goal is to be balanced in the league then your setting yourself up for failure.  We are a passing team who passes to set up the run.  Until monday we havent had a good run game and we keep winning.  If we cant run, we will pass and pass a lot.  If you think this will hurt us bigtime well thats on you. 

My original thought too.  But this will reguire both team to run.  If these teams cant run sunday this could turn into a shootout or at least stop the clock enough with the passing game that it could easily sail over.  Gun to my head I am going under.  But I could easily see us going off for 34 ourselves.

So a team that scored.  27,48,26,34,24 cant put up 34 on the 49ers Defense?  I do believe I said it could easily happen.  I am not saying I think it will.  Can you read sir?
