Hans, how long have you been handicapping NFL games?  Do you keep track of your record?  I know you are too new to have much of a documented record here but I was wondering how you have fared in the past (I will take your word for it).

The only reason I ask is because I am impressed with your approach.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks Red. .  Its always great when Cowboys and Skins fans can get along.

Regarding your question, probably not as long as you think.  I've been obsessed with football since I can remember, started watching when I was 5 and can remember pieces of most games.  Played the game (not at high level).  I was the kid drawing up playbooks and shit cause I was bored in high school classes.  The drunk guy at the sports bar you see yelling at the TV because a coach makes a ridiculous call or an o-lineman blows a block, or any other mental mistake that affects the outcome of football games?  Yep, thats me.

I actually only started betting 3 years ago, in the 2006 season.  Before that I made exactly one bet in my life when I was in college (the bar manager at a place I worked at was a bookie and he was giving me shit I didnt have the balls to bet the Superbowl despite the fact football was all I talked about.  That game was the Super Bowl, and without even blinking I told him I was putting 200 down on Tampa straight up.  He asked if I was sure, and I said, well considering Gruden put that team together, its a no brainer.  From there, I was that guy who won alot of fantasy leagues and usually the office pool to feed my obsession.

Now, before you all think I'm bragging or long winded (which is definetly true), let me tell you that in the 2006 and a better part of the 2007 season I was the biggest square bettor in history.  I didnt have alot of money at the time, and was really cocky, so I bet almost stricly parlays and teasers thinking I would put minimal down and get a big pay day.  I didnt keep track back then but I can tell you at least 50 times I lost a parlay or teaser by one game.  I routinetly fell into traps.  Experienced countless mooses.  Wrote a blog about it, I was pissed.  I learned, the hard way.

ANYway, I learned my lessons.  Started actually paying attention to stats, trap games, sandwhich games, basically doing more research than purely relying on my perceived football knowledge and what I saw with my own eyes.  Started betting mostly straight bets, and won a little bit.

This year I started documenting every bet, playing less teasers, parlays, etc (although I still cant resist at least one a week).  I'm up for the year, actually winning some cash instead of constantly re-loading my account like a God Damn square.

To answer your question, my NFL and College ATS record this year is 63-41, roughly 60%.  Some bad beats, some lucky wins, some outright mooses.  My covers NFL/College posted record is 14-11 with +14 units of profit (largely due to going 3-0 so far on big bets.  Ive tended to do better on games where I have a long winded write up, so heres hoping Im lucky this week as this thread is full of them.

Sorry for the life story, I used to be a writer

The only reason these two games were even close were because of 2 big special teams plays... a punt return TD and a kickoff return TD. Miami's defense is playing lights out, just look how many yards they have given up in the past two games. Also, there offense is scary now, Ted Ginn has two touchdowns in the past two games and Ricky and Ronnie both had 100+ yard games with TD's.

IF the Dolphins special teams dont give up a big play, the Dolphins WILL win this game.

BigHans, thank you for the great write-ups, and insight.  Research is key, and I appreciate the fact that the Forum has so many people willing to share their strategies and picks for the greater good.  I will be looking forward to contributing to your posts in the future.  BOL Hans!  Much respect.

IF the Dolphins special teams dont give up a big play, the Dolphins WILL win this game.

Well JoeyP its certainly possible, we'll have to wait and see my friend.  BOL to you.

Might have a few more, there are some brutally ugly games on this card.  Might play the Vikes/Jags game waiting to see if Williams' are suspended.  Will definetly be doing another moneyline parlay with the a Monday night team involved to go for a middle.

I was all over Pitt with you and that was money but a little to close for my liking. When that retard Lewis kicked a FG with 6:50 left and the game 20-7 I was flipping out cause i had Pitt at -11. Thank God Pitt scored again and then Polamalu had the pick.

    Heres my final card:

    Pitt - 11

    New England +2

    Baltimore 0

NYG - 3 (against you here and buying 1/2 point)

    Washington - 3 (buying half a point)

Sd - 2.5 (only if I am winning on the day as I hate betting on this team)

    Big Shot Bill,

GL on the Redskins, I couldnt convince myself to play that one.  I gave up trying to fade teams going into Seattle.

BigHans, in total agreement on PATS'/FINS, as you can see by my avatar, you know who I'm a fan of. However, making $$$ is first on my list,  Locked in Pats' +2, have them parlayed and teased this week as well. Good info', my man.

Locked in 'ZONA +3.5, love Warner and that outstanding tandem of receivers in a game that quite frankly is more important to them."O" line has done good job protecting him. Defense is underrated, giving up less than 300 total yds(#11) and less than 90 on ground. Expect one rowdy crowd for defending Super Bowl champs. 'Zona legit chance to win.

Disagree with you on BUCS/LIONS, however. You know the no.'s, have all the info (former players/coach). BUCS' seriously hurting @ RB, down to DUNN, good back, small stature, not physical. Cadillac 50/50 just to be in uniform let alone play and contribute. Tampa last 3 OTR, LOSS DEN, 16-13, LOSS ROMO LESS 'BOYZ' 13-9, MIRACLE COMEBACK WIN @  CHIEFS BY 3.
    TAMPA 0-5 ATS LAST 5 @ DETROIT.

As you mentioned, big division games on deck for Bucs' and while LIONS are still a bad  team, they have actually been improving and have played well for about 45 out of 60 minutes lately. BUCS could be a little flat for this one...

Locked in DET +9, small play on DET ML (+300)

As always, best of luck to all!!!

My Sunday ticket as of Sat night:

    Skins (-3) over the Seahawks
    Gints (-3) over the Cardinals
    Pats (+2) over the Dolphins

    Two Teasers:

    Pats (+9) / Over 35
    Falcons (+6) / Over 36)

    Considerations between now and tomorrow:

    Tampa Bay (-7.5) over Detroit
    Titans (-5.5) over the Jets

Question for anyone that cares to answer:

Anyone have any feeling with regards to the Packers (+2.5) vs the Saints???

Whole shit I feel the exact...EXACT SAME way...about 99.99999999% of everything you said about the NE/MIA game

I also jumped on it as soon as I saw it (gut feeling)

As the week goes on I see everybody is on NE too and their getting like 90%

but really. The Books couldn't have favoured the pats in this one by any kind of number. Assume the Pats win by 3,4 or 7+ maybe even DD if they do show up w/ an asswhoppin in mind...A 3,4 or more spread makes no sense and would obviously be a bad line...so what are the books to do????

they did what they could...made it a pk...and I'm assuming...will rout for the fish like CRAZY.

IMO, it's us against the books on a game that they had no real options...

GL to NE Backers....aka anybody with a TV and a dollar....I hope I can see this game through the chronic smoke.

I had pitt on thursday, and I like the Pats on Sunday. Bellicheat and a little extra time to game plan makes a huge difference. Would love to see Miami win here, but I think the Pats get revenge. Miami, I think, they are a year away. Great write ups, you convinced me on the Philly/Raven game. Gonna go with Baltimore. Gut feeling on Jets. They keep it close, maybe even win. And 1 cowboy fan to another, they run all over the niners this week. GL and keep up the good write ups...

Thanks all, well I hope tomorrow is much better than today, not exactly my best day in College FB.  Thank God for the Boomer Sooners.

    Anyway, Final Card,

    Pitt -10

    NE +2 (4 Units)

    Balty -1 (2 Units)

    Arizona +3.5 (2 Units)

    Tampa -7 (2 Units)

    ATL -1

    San Diego -2.5

    Tennessee -5

Moneyline Parlay (Dallas/Denver/Chicago/New Orleans) 2 Units Pays 6

10 point teaser (KC +13/Seattle +13/Jax +7.5) 2 Units pays less than it should.  This was a drunken pissed off bet, probably complete shit.  Word of advice to anyone who plays 10 point teasers, a tie = a loss, keep that in mind.

    BOL to everyone

Incredible write ups and I agree with all your reasoning
win or lose well done homework
Philly is a mess right now that might have to be a big play. Westbrook playing hurt, a couple hits from Lewis and he will be watching the game from locker room.

Hey BigHans, really respect all of your write-ups they are amazing! I am new to this site, but we are all here to try and help right? Just thought I'd give my thought on the Zona game.

    - I live in Phoenix right now, and let me tell you Zona is a scary bet..We have recently been voted worst fanbase in NFL, not to mention no one here is from here. The stadium was built for entertainment, and people just do not care lol. Also, it is winter season which means the "snow-birds" are back from the Northeast. At best this is a neutral site for the Cards. I will be attending, and I expect to see just as many Giants jerseys as Cards jerseys.

    - Zona is a home machine, but Giants are an even better road machine IMO.

    - After what the G-Men did to Ray Lewis and the Ravens, I don't think any defense has the key to their 3 headed running attack.

Other than that I'm with you on every other play. BOL

Pats opened early in the week as a 3 point dog. Betus.com now has them as a 2 point fav. Does that make anyone want to bet Mia?
