At the end of the 2003-2004 season after the Detroit Pistons upset the LA Lakers to win the 2004 NBA Championship, former LA Lakers Center Shaquille O'Neal demanded a trade and was dealt to the Miami Heat for F Lamar Odom, G-F Caron Butler, and F-C Brain Grant. Caron Butler and Brian Grant are no longer with the team but Lamar Odom is still a member of the Lakers. Since 2004-2005, everytime F Lamar Odom has missed a stretch of games due to injury, personal reasons, etc and was not in the starting lineup the Lakers have had a losing record. The Lakers' record in games Lamar Odom has not started is 21-33.
During February of the 2008-2009, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak pulled off a monumental deal that landed the Lakers Paul Gasol. As soon as the deal went down, Gasol slowly but surely, emerged as the team's best player.
I've decided to make another thread that will carry over for the next 2 or 3 weeks dedicated to injured Lakers' forward Pau Gasol. With the Lakers' true MVP being unable to play due to injury, I have a feeling that this will lead to the Lakers have a losing record straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) for an unprecedented 5th consecutive season.
Here is a look at the total statistics.
Final Statistics
Against the spread (2005-present )
ATS: 24-38-2 .387 SU: 26-38 .438
O-U 42-22

Gasol said he hopes to practice today. But as far as playing Friday night when the Lakers host the Memphis Grizzlies at Staples Center, Gasol shot that down. "I'm far from playing on Friday," he said. The Lakers play again Sunday night, but Gasol wasn't "sure about that either."
