very few are in GSP's class but I think Shields is the closest out of everyone in his division. Shields is better than Fitch IMO who is the consensus number 2 welterweight
He's a distant 2nd. The largest crowd in MMA history will also be behind GSP. In fighting, that can be a lot of extra energy.
Shields is a good fighter, don't get me wrong---but GSP will be ready.

gl buddy....i follow MMA and although Shields will give GSP all he can handle, I can't see GSP not coming out on top.
with that being said, I am not putting any money on GSP as I think the "value" is on Shields....just because I think he might be one of the toughest guys GSP has ever faced and I haven't seen enough of Shields to warrant laying this type of juice against a former champ. An "action" wager is always fun though and I still think GSP wins, although it won't be easy.

The most valuable bet in my opinion is a Double Result bet with Memphis - Memphis for +115. I do not see San Antonio winning neither the first half nor the game. I would be careful with -3 as the refs are the last refuge syndicate has to ease on the projected losses to the books as the result of one sided moneyflow. Another part the books would hope to balance their projected losses through referying is the total. Since the whole world and his wife are on Under - I would definetely take Over, but would do it at the half because the Over effect by the refs is coming at the end of the game.
So for me its:
Mempis - Memphis DR +115
Over 2H (to bet at the half)
GL and thanks Bodio for the nice write up as always

bodie, i think you should consider putting JOSE ALDO in your parlay instead of GSP. I have been betting on shields as a dog since he came into strikeforce and I have never lost yet. Sure GSP is the favorite to win and it could set up one of the biggest matches in fight history against da Spider, but never count out Jakes jitz, he is very underated. On the other hand you have Aldo who could be the next A. Silva in his weight class. I think that is the more safer money line. As for other fights I think Jason Brillz and mark Bocek are good under dogs. I just think Matyushenko is just a little older now and Brillz has the fresher younder body. Ima research more and give you more help later
Awesome. thanks for responding. So if Memphis win tonight, maybe I should hedge with Shields on the ML tomorrow? I can get him +325. Do you really think he can win though?
Alright, I'm taking your advice and putting in another 'ACTION' parlay: Memphis ML + Aldo!

I like Machida to beat Coutures ass, but being said this could be Coutures last fight, and you just don't know if it goes to the judges some shady stuff can happen. But I do believe the result of the machida fight will be similar to when he beat tito ortiz
Machida has been in poor form recently though. I first saw him live at MGM Grand right before Steelers/Cards SuperBowl (it was GSP/Penn II), and fell in love with his style. After Shogun kicked his ass though (twice IMO), he hasn't been the same...Plus it's no fun to root against old man Couture in his last fight I'll just watch this one.. Maybe throw some change on Couture for the hell of it

Already there myself. It took a miracle for the Spurs to even force OT the other night. The playoffs are all about matchups (Atl over Orl) and SA doesn't matchup well with the Grizzly Bears. The Grizz move on.
Thinking on the Celtics +5 for Sunday. I think the C's matchup pretty well with Mia. I'm not completely sold on the Heat yet. All it takes is for one of the 'superfriends' to be off and they'll be in trouble. Especially if Boston truly was playing possum at the end of the regular season and have flipped the switch. Rust concerns me a little. What you think?
today
First lean is definitely with the Celtics. They're playing excellent 'ball' right now which brings back memories of their championship run as well as last year.

GSP is in a different class than Shields. This one won't be as close as the UFC is trying to portray it.
I did Memphis-GSP-Jose Aldo.
In terms of UFC Pound for Pound King, I think most of the industry ranks it: 1) Anderson Silva 2) GSP 3) Jose Aldo
It should be fun!
I hope Couture, Oregon born and raised, beats Machida in his farewell match. However, this isn't the WWE and fairytales are rarely written in the Octagon. :)
You might be right. Obviously UFC wants to make it look like it will be a close fight, but if GSP wins this one, I think they have to have him vs Silva as the next bout. That would be an amazing fight.
You say Aldo is #3 best PfP fighter? I must have missed the 'boat' with him then. Excited to see him tomorrow

Yes GSP is more athletic than Shields, but Shields is the bigger opponent. Believe me Shields has absolutely no striking. I know this because in MTV's Bully Beatdown he couldn't even knock the bully out. What Shields has that GSP might not be able to neutralize is sweeps. You probably think this fight is going to end up like GSP KOSCHECK when he jabbed him to death. Don't get me wrong GSP is the supposed favorite to win, but and he hasn't lost a round in almost what 15 rounds? Thats absurd. But I'm telling if you if he tries to play it safe and it ends up on the ground and Jake sweeps and gets top position it is over. Just my two cents brotha
Hmm very interesting. I agree, GSP is best keeping this one above the mat. One thing is that Shields is not very good at taking guys down (read somewhere that his take-down % is very poor in the last couple of fights) and GSP is excellent defensively. If Shields is as poor in striking as you say he is, then I don't really know if he has much of a chance here. I'm hoping Memphis wins tonight so that I could decide if I should hedge my parlay by taking Shields ML tomorrow. You think it's worth it?

yes it is ballsy but i am very confident in my grizz play at 2.5 so even if i hit that and not the other that is still a 4 unit profit cuz i have 5 units on grizz, but im not betting it for the sole fact that i want to win just the 2.5 play, i think the payout is great for the -10 play and if i didnt think i was gonna hit it i wouldnt have bet it, after capping it i really feel i will hit the -10 play, oh and with my local a push on the -10 is a win, so if all goes well tonight i hope to see a post from you with a trophy hahaha. GL tonight.
I don't do trophies! Only:

Yeah, the home-crowd is also a factor that I thought about. I've been to one UFC event in my life, and honestly the energy was the most impressive thing I've ever experienced at a sports event. It's unlike anything else. Everyone needs to go to one of these at least once in their life-times. It's truly an unbelievable experience.
The one I went to was at MGM Grand, with maybe 10k people. Tomorrow's fight will have more than 55k fans -- it's gonna be electric.

Yeah, I'll probably just let me GSP parlay wager ride then (assuming memphis win tonight). It's an 'action' wager anyways, and GSP is my favorite fighter, so no need to hedge anything there...

Your smartest option. Did you watch VegasRunner's video picks on those 3 fights on pregame? It will make you feel even better about not hedging with Shields. GL

Ya I totally agree. I havent looked at GSP in a few hours but he was -350 earlier. GSP wont lose this fight 9/10 times but you always have to be worried about a lucky hay maker, like the one he landed on Hughes back in the day. Im going to wager small on Shields just cause of the value, but rooting for GSP. :) GL

I was at UFC 44 when TITO got SPANKED LITERALLY BY RANDY and wow could you feel the crowd going crazy. We werwe down in the Media room after the fight and these guys VITOR BELFORE, SILVA, TITO, RANDY, ARLOVSKY, ROGAN (was a littel shorter than I thought) were so down to earth.

Yeah, I'm sure GSP is over-valued. That's why I would never wager on him SU at these odds. Won't it be pretty hard to cheer for your wager to win and to root for GSP at the same time? :)

Boxing can get boring at times. This last weekend there were some great fight you should youtube. ORTIZ vs BERTO or NAVA vs TORRES. Boxing needs to inject some type of excitement into the sport, maybe display the scorecards after every round or possibly ONLY pay the winner and the loser gets only his expenses and 20% of purse. NOT SURE WHAT THEY NEED TO DO.
