Satements like this are hilarious.
That would actually be true if Gil was actually from the ghetto or the hood. Gil grew up in Van Nuys and has never gotten in any type of trouble in his life up till this. Gil is as square as they come. Pulling a strap over a gambling debt isn't ghetto or hood. It's cowardly, and stupid.

scalabrine i didnt see anyone bringing the race into this,am i missing something?
thugs, yes, what else would you call a professional basketball player having guns in locker room and threatening teammate?
You obviously don't have a lot of experience with thugs.
A thug isn't gonna pull a strap on you in a locker room with no intent to use it. Especially over a supposed gambling debt. That's a coward.
If you owed thugs I know money, they're not gonna pull out a strap on you. They're gonna run up in your house at 4 in the morning while you're sleep and and settle up.
Big difference between cowards and thugs.

You don't bet on NBA games? Yeah, right! Then why are you even in this forum? Are you another who wants to handicap the mobsters rather than the teams?

If you check out some of my past posts here, I've been saying this about Arenas for a long time. He is a nothing more than an overpaid, self-centered, arrogant, piece of crap. It comes as no surprise then that he decides to welch on a debt. 00 should be his NBA salary from this point onward. I hope his career is now over as quickly as Latrine Sprewell's ended.

Trust me,I lived and worked in Oakland a few years and been to the places where no white men can visit in richmond and east oakland, worked with people on parole and witnessed gunshots,i know what a thug is but i think i misused in "arenas" example.yes thats so cowardly.I think Kenyon Martin is a good example of thugs in NBA![]()

i´m often with you on these kinds of comments but when a grown man who gets paid millions to play basketball do something this fuckin stupid, i´m not sure it is the right time to pull out the righteous indignation, white man`s guilt card for risk of overplaying it. i´d save it for a better situaion than this one.
i think your comment does much more harm than the thug comments because at some level, by rationalizing this kind of behavior and lashing out at the ostensibly overprivileged white people in here, you are setting your expectations so low for black people with difficult upbringings that you presume they aren´t civilized enough to make something that even resembles the correct decision here. so when someone makes a terribly stupid decision such as this, your comments basically says, that´s ok, we can´t expect any better from him. let´s give black people more credit than this, even the ones with difficult upbringings, and assume they can make reasonable choices in the same situation as these two people were in.

Wow...imo, this is also a slight over-reaction on your part. A very true and simple point that "...until you have walked a mile in another's shoes...' would have been suffcient. The reactions on this post seem reasonable based on what little facts are known, Arenas' past arrest and the reported pro athlete culture.
Also, do you really decide to hand in your guns when you have a newborn...meaning, can a three or five year-old (whatever the ages of his frst two children) not do more damage than a newborn baby? The excuse is lame and the NBA/Feds should fully penalize this guy. Again, imo.

As a fan of the Wizards ( I live in the area) who has worked for 2 NBA teams including the Bullets, this is a disgrace to Abe Pollin, who believed in this prick to REWARD Arenas even AFTER he was hurt .
Arenas is not from the GHETTO and hasn't lived in anything less than a luxurious lifestyle for the past 7 years..
Let's stop blaming someone's prior life as a rationale for aborant behavior .
The situation is a disgrace to the team and the league and the players will be dealt with severely.... Vick and Burriss can atest to that ..

NYTimes: When asked if he had showed the weapons to anyone, Arenas responded: “Yes, I showed them to someone. I showed them to team security when I handed them to them and said give them to the police. Yes, I took them out of this locker room. I had to take them out to get them out of here to give to security. You see they didn’t take the whole locker out of here.”
Forget about who is saying this...how fast does the NBA move to get this person out of the league?
