ATL got a number of good looks in the first game, on semi-break-aways, and I see ORL making adjustments to limit those. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is this. First game there were 196 points scored. What are the chances that ATL shoots 51% from the field and 42%+ from the 3PT line in this one tonight? I feel that the 2nd quarter of the first game was an anomaly (60+ points scored) and this game will resemble more the 1st and 4th quarters of that one. I could definitely see both teams scoring 12.5 less points tonight than they did in game 1....GL

In any case, my model for NBA is very different for MLB, NFL, etc....Way different. You have to remember that in NBA, most lines are very accurate. I use my model to confirm that. Sure, sometimes the line could be a point or so off, but usually it's easy to figure out why. In certain instances the line could be off by more than that, and usually there are injuries involved. Again, it's helpful to know what the line should be, and then try to figure out if the injury properly accounts for the variance.
Either way, I suggest developing even a basic model (MOV, SOS, Relative strength -- from my Playoff Preview guide) as it is a great starting point and enables us to handicap with confidence in trying to determine which team has an advantage of covering the line on that particular day, in that particular matchup. Instead of spending time figuring out if it's a 'trap line' or if the line is accurate, etc, we as handicappers can concentrate on actually breaking down the game and look at other relevant factors instead. Also Van Gundy admitted to having to change their D for game 2 and Orlando will close-out on shooters. On top of that the Hawks coach said they probably will not make so many jumpers as they had a great shooting night in game 1. Basically, I see Orlando scoring around the same total as game 1, which was 93 (No need for ATL to change their D). After you apply the spread -8, I see something close to a 93-85 end result.

Atl +9.5 may be worth serious consideration as well. Yes, the Magic will tighten up on D & should shoot much better from outside, but see more weight needed to be given as a real matchup prob (other than Howard) for the Magic as also evidenced in the reg season, than to the situation which should favor Orlando considerably. Also gotta consider a bit how much goin up 2-0 & goin home would mean to a team that already has a ton of confidence that they can win again. GL man, love the writeups

I agree..At 179 (that was the opening total in the 1st game) there's no value, but I like it at 183.5. GL buddy

That is FALSE information! First off it's Toney, and secondly that kid buckles down and plays HARD nose D. Douglas will be able to keep up with Rondo much better than Billups can. Offensively is where NY will struggle, without Chauncey's organization and distribution of the rock. If Toney is HOT, good chance game goes over, if Toney goes cold, game could go UNDA NEATH. One thing is for certain, TD loves to chuck up 3's, and he does play D.

The OVER actually hit in 3 straight games prior to Billups coming back, indicating to me that he was more efficient running the team after a couple of games 'under his belt'. Here's the breakdown of Knicks' points in those games and their opponent:
vs NOH 107 points vs CLE 115 points @ ATL 92 points vs UTA 131 points @ MEM 110 points @ DAL 109 points
Sure, Utah and Cleveland are 'cup-cakes' when it comes to defense, but the other 4 are not. Still, Knicks averaged 105 ppg against those 4 squads with Douglas running the show. What else is interesting is that Douglas has the highest +/- number of any Knicks player this year. It's +110. Sure he's only been on the 'floor' for 50% of the total minutes and played a lot of those minutes against opposing teams' backups, but that's still impressive. The next closest was Walker at +90. Billups was on the floor for 16% of Knicks' minutes (he got traded mid-season, remember) and his +/- number was -15. Hmmm. When you look at Net48 (team's net points per 48 mins of playing time for the player) for each, Douglas is +2.7 while billups is -1.1 That's a variance of almost 4 additional points. It's pretty much tells us that Douglas increases New York's scoring by 4 points over Billups, in a 48 minute game. I don't expect him to play 48, but I wouldn't be surprised if he logs 40+ in this one tonight.
