Buddy Rich is the king. He played big band and jazz, so you may not be familiar with his work. Check out some of his solos on you tube. You'll be glad you did. He influenced most of the heavy hitters in rock.

With all due respect I have to disagree with Nick Mason and Ringo Starr. Not trying to diminish the music of Floyd and the Beatles, I am a huge fan of both, but those two "drummers" were/are mediocre at best. Ask any drummer.

Rockenfield of Queensryche & Graham Broad of PF/Roger Waters are two of the other best I've seen......
Mugg, that guy playing with Roger is silently great and extremely underrated. Perhaps that
s in my circles though of course, and not with said peers in the industry. Nonetheless, he does a great job.
Mugg, my brain and heart still swimming from hapiness after my nearly missing seeing R.Waters for the first time ever Dec. 14th in Anaheim, and arguable, the last time Waters ever plays live in the USA....

2 things:
1. Buddy Rich influenced all of the great rock drummers.
2. Go fuck yourself.

Bonham and Peart regarding actually posting towards the thread subject.....
.....But as an overall musical talent going beyond just sitting behind a set of drums, .... Stewart Copeland is a genius. I just don't think he fits the straight up "drummer" description these days...

"I can hardly do better than quote
something Gene Krupa once said, that there are all these
great drummers in the world -- and then there's Buddy
Rich. During the making of our tribute record to his
music,
Burning For Buddy, I immersed myself pretty deeply in
Buddy's life and work, and the more I learned, the more
I came to admire the man and his music. Quite simply,
Buddy Rich was a great man, who did great work."
