Pattie Boyd, George Harrison's girlfriend at the time, not yet married, but Clapton had an affair/was banging her.......it ended (for the time being) Clapton and Harrison's friendship, which, I heard was a close one......

....and George (R.I.P.) had to think of it everytime he got to hear that song Layla.  Played a few times here and there I suppose.....
