Word is Santana wanted out....and no way MN was going to let him pitch here this year as a disgruntled player only to get even less for him at the deadline or draft picks like they did for Hunter. 
 
At least this way the players they do get will have a year of time to develop in MN's system.  Maybe Mulvey and or Gomez can contribute by the time the new park opens.
 
And MN now has some money to spend in the next few years. 
 
The mistake was not jumping on one of the early deals as you knew they would just get worse and worse.

Considering their team at the time last year, those moves weren't surprising.  I'm not happy with the deal, but MN's trade track record makes me give them the benefit of the doubt.  And the FA pool this year was $hit....why waste money.

If they spend nothing next year, then I'll come after them.

TRoe this is HUGE..
Why did they not go with the yanks or the sox deals when they involved much better prospects...
I guess so they dont have to face the guy?
Sucks man but there always seems to be teams who trade away all their stars and end up being the team to beat..


Oh and I am a Braves fan so this one really hurts me also..
So much for this season..

Oh and my pick for winning it this season is the Tigers..

What is so special about what Omar has done?  He's basically dumped a ton of money into some free agents (overpaid in certain cases....FOUR years for Castillo?  Pedro on the DL?  Hard to believe) and let the young stars (Wright and Reyes) play on the major league club. 
 
Wow, that's some shrewd stuff right there. 
 
Bottom line is, Santana told the Twins, "trade me this week to a NY club or I'm going to play here this year, walk next year, and you get nothing."
 
I could have made that trade if I were the Mets G.M.

And I'm not saying the Mets made a bad deal....they HAD to make that deal.  But if there was an over/under to when Santana gets hurt, I would place it at 2 years. 
 
Slight build...throws hard......you should read some of the comments about how much work he puts in between starts to get ready....he does not have that natural pitcher's body that rebounds easily.  And he's thrown a zillion innings the last 5 years.
