Not a bad day at all yesterday. Only losses came because of the Tigers' bullpen & the Marlins inability to hit Pirates pitching. I'm not surprised at the latter, as I posted at the start of the season, these Pirates are going to be a lot better than people think because of their new pitching coach. The 5 wins were all pretty straight forward & easy chases. Neither Minny/Boston game is on the Pinny board yet so I haven't reviewed those games/stats & won't have a chance to.
12:35pm: Florida/Pittsburgh Under 8 (-111) for 1 unit
My boy, Paul Maholm goes again today for the Buccos. A career 4.40 ERA against the Fish but just a 0.91 WHIP & .212 Opposing Average. He's been a sucker for home runs against them, giving up seven dingers in five games, but we're talking about a now much improved Maholm. Terrific start to the season & should continue today. Not to be outdone, Ricky Nolasco goes for the Marlins. A career 1.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP & .228 Opposing Avreage. A relatively tough start to the year (6.60 ERA) but he's been getting better with each start. A day game after a night game should help too.
1:05pm: Oakland Athletics ML (+221) for 1 unit

CC Sabathia hates these A's. A career 3-7 through fifteen starts & a 6.17 ERA, 1.63 WHIP & .299 Opposing Average. Yankee Stadium should help the cause as the Athletics hang seven or eight on the Yanks. Anderson makes just his third career start and although he's been good so far & it should be enough to win this game, he'll probably give up four or five today, just a hunch.
7:05pm: Philadelphia Phillies -1 (+102) for 1 unit
Braden Looper has seen the Phillies sixty times. Only two starts though. A career 5.53 ERA, 1.53 WHIP & .298 Opposing Average. You guys know I don't put much stock in to pitcher vs batter but Ryan Howard is 4 for 5 with 4 home runs against this guy. Why? Because Looper has below average stuff. Fatass Joe Blanton goes for Philly, he's seen the Brew Crew once, went seven innings allowing three runs on five hits & two walks. A 2.08 Opposing Average in that game. Blanton should hold the fort long enough for them.
7:07pm: Texas/Toronto Over 10 (-102) for 1 unit
Matt Harrison makes start number three on the year and has compiled an 8.44 ERA, 2.47 WHIP & .391 Opposing Average. He faces the best offence in baseball today. David Purcey, so far this year, has a 6.46 ERA, 1.70 WHIP yet a surprisingly low .236 Opposing Average. He's walked thirteen in fifteen innings though. He faces the second best offence in baseball. Enough said.
8:05pm: Cincinnati Reds ML (+154) for 1 unit
My friend was off on this one by one day. The Reds own Ted Lilly. Ted Lilly has lost four straight games against these Reds. Last year they beat him 9-2, 12-7, 2-1 & 10-2. He went 17.2 innings total allowing sixteen runs on eighteen hits & ten walks. Lilly has always been a danger machine, walking people at the worst times but he's yet to do that this year. He seems to do it every 3-4 games so perfect timing! Johnny Cueto is one of the nicest guys on the Reds and he has a sweet SVU that he pulled over with and signed everything kids handed him in spring training. I didn't approach as I was talking with Edinson Volquez at the time. Anyways, he should be able to hold the Cubs down long enough for them to beat down Lilly.
