The Marlins have 2 World Series titles and one of the best farm systems in MLB. It's not their fault that Miami is an indifferent market for sports. Only the Dolphins have a hard core fan base, and even they don't show up for the games when the team is not winning.

How bout the Texas high school football community who approved to build a new staudium. Just a mere 26 mIllion and seats a whopping 18,000
Talk about die hards. No Tv revenue or jersey sales.
How can they justify this. Just goes to show the value of sports in a community vs. others.

I wonder how much the Yankees made during this time... probably $100 million, after the profit sharing.
If you are going to say that it is "good for baseball" that the Yankees can buy their way out of their mistakes and sign CC, Burnett and Tex in the same offseason, then how can you blame Pittsburgh for taking the cash and running since they could never be competitive if they spent it anyways?
If the Dolans were doing this in Cleveland, at least we could justify the losing. Instead they are forced to send off CC, Lee, Martinez and countless others because of 2 bad signings (Hafner and Sizemore).

Simple, keep all the profits to upper management. Excellent business model which will continue year in and year out.

Maybe because the amount of money you are complaining about is the same amount of cash the Yankees are paying a 3rd baseman with limited range to play 120 games a year.

I, unfortunately, grew up in the pittsburgh area and wouldn't go see the Pirates play if they were giving out free tickets! Having 2 sit through one of their games is similar 2 going 2 midnite mass on x-mas eve
Watching the Succo's play makes you wish the MLB allowed the players 2 use PED's
Its really a painful event 2 watch. I was shocked 2 hear they made to hear they made that much money becuz the stands are always 2/3's empty. At least the Penguins are half decent![]()

simple the pirates owner treats the pirates as one of his many businesses. . with no lower level or floor telling him how much he has to spend. . he tries to limit what he pays out in player salaries thus guaranteeing him a profit. . the article i read also said that tampa bay made more profit when they were losing 90+ games than they were when they were winning. . basically for small market owners its financially better to lose instead of risking putting money into the mlb team (basically player salaries) and not making the playoffs.. .
the current baseball system is a joke and what makes me even more sick is seeing a statue of bud selig being erected. . if i ever set foot in milwaukee im bringing a carton of eggs with me

i agree with u jpero. . i applaud them for what they are spending their money on recently but i am disappointed that they missed out on sano an international ss prospect that they were supposedly the front runners for last year. . eventually losing out to the twins because they didnt offer him enough money. .
the big question as i stated before in other posts is if they get a good young core that starts to win will ownership finally sign their young stars to contracts instead of trading them away. . that has yet to be answered. . but for the last 2 years i think ownership is finally moving in the right direction. . too bad the bucs young pitching is at least 2 years away so all i can do is wait and wait
