I would love to know who these incredible pitchers are that you're talking about besides Rich "DL" Harden. Also, their offense looks absolutely pathetic with no speed at all.
A's Depth Chart
Last years BA
C Suzuki .249
1B Johnson .236
2B Ellis .276
3B Chavez .226
SS Crosby .240
LF Brown .257
CF Denorfia .283 (2006)
RF Buck .288
DH Cust .256
As you can see they cant hit at all with nobody over .288...they cant run at all with Brown leading all these guys in SB's last year with 12...Cust was the only one of these guys to break 20 HR...Nobody broke 82 RBI's....Nobody broke 84 runs scored...I dont think there is a team in a baseball that would trade offenses with the A's. And again, they dont have incredible pitching. Rich Hardens great, but always hurt. Huston Street is also pretty good but battled an arm injury last year if memory serves. Thats about it. If you're looking for an easy way to waste money...laying a futures bet on the A's to win it all is one of the easist ways to do it.

Will you refer back to this post when they are 20-30 games under .500? You probably wont. I am a white sox fan btw.
The A's could never win when they actually had incredible pitching in Zito, Mulder, and Hudson and also a lineup that consisted of a healthy chavez and tejada. They didnt come close to winning last year and all they have really done since last year is subtract their best pitcher in Haren and one of their best hitters in Piazza. I'm not bashing you I am just very curious as to why you think this team is a World Series calibur team, because I dont even think they're a Major League calibur team.

I couldn't sleep due to helicopter noise and it dawned on me that if the A's can stay healthy..I know big if...and Crosby, Chavez improve can hit at least .275 collectively then we may in fact have a good year!

I'm in no way knocking your thread.... But there are way too many "heavyweights" to knock out in the AL for the A's to even have a chance. There is no way. The D Backs wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs if they played in the AL last year. I've mentioned before that if you want to cash in on any MLB future that has any type of value, you need to stay away from World Series bets and concentrate on strictly picking the NL Pennant winner. I see a lot of value with a few teams there.

By the way I like the Giants at like 40-1 or whatever to win the NL. I love their starting pitching. I like the bullpen if smelly hat Kline can keep his vagina healthy. Hennessy will be a serviceable closer. I think Zito bounces back with a huge year. The Bonds circus is gone. Only problem is the offense is pathetic as can be and is in a rebuilding stage. Defense is very solid now with Rowand coming over. Tough ass division, but will see. Futures are always fun when you're having a tough time betting during the season you still have that one team to root for. Later.

Looks like that so callled "incredible" pitching may get a little weaker. Blanton may be on the move now. They have already traded Haren...If they do trade Blanton I would love to see what that starting five looks like after Harden goes on the DL. Chad Gaudin #1?
The Denver Post reports that the Athletics want Andre Ethier, Andy LaRoche and a prospect from the Dodgers in exchange for Joe Blanton.
Billy Beane is really working the "best available arm" angle to drive up Blanton's price, but it's unlikely the Dodgers would give up both Ethier and LaRoche for him.

The only reason the D-Backs went so far last year is because they had to go through the NL. In all honesty, the NL doesn't really compare to the AL. I think Billy Beane is starting to lose his luster, he doesn't seem to come off as a genius nearly as much anymore.
As for the trade of Blanton for Ethier, LaRoche and the prospect. Does Billy Beane really think Blanton is that valuable?
If I were to pick a potential surprise team this year, I would have to go with the Rays. They won't win their division or finish second but I think this team is finally starting to develop some good quality starting pitching, their bullpen is very suspect but I think Percival will be a very viable closer for them. This team should easily win more games than the Orioles and I think they have a legitimate shot at beating out the Jays if their pitching comes through for them this season.

Keep hating guys...the A's will compete in the AL West and surprise people! I will be around all year to take on the bashers..take them as puppies and collect!

I love your optimism goat..but I just don't see it. As a life-long A's fan, now living in Phoenix, I've never seen their line-up look this poor. I'll be watching closely during Spring Training, but I don't see an re-run of what the D-Backs did last year.

Harden threw several pitches today and averaged 95 mph..his last pitch was 98! I know you A's bashers are hoping for the perennial but if he stays healthy then look for plenty of this to occur!
