Game, any thoughts on the Yanks -1.5 tonight? I can see them just beating up on Smoltz and I'm obviously not paying that kind of juice on a straight up play.

You asked me a half hour after the game started so I will give it to you after the fact. Some of this I wrote elsewhere this morning.
Carmona is one tough cookie. His biggest issue is his command and based
upon his rehab stint in the minors, that is something he worked on
effectively. He was pretty solid in his last start especially after a
rough first inning. His release points were very consistent and his
fastball topped out at 96.7 mph and averaged 94.36 mph. His slider was
a bit off, throwing just 6 of 14 for strikes but overall, I like the
direction he is heading. I could be wrong, but I think he is on his way
to improvement and I expect better results.
With Ted Barrett behind the plate today who is 14-6 UNDER, it could only help both pitchers weaknesses. Also, a poster I respect, Vegaskyle hit on other points I liked about Blackburn:
Blackburn isn't as bad as you guys are making him out to be ... he had
to pitch against the hottest hitting team in baseball twice in less
than a week ... so he had no shot the second time around. The oakland
outing was the first time all year he had pitched off of ten day rest.
About the only game you can get on his ass about is the 7 inning 9 hit
4 run affair at home to the white sox. One start against cleveland this
year and it was in cleveland and he threw 7 innings of 1 run baseball.
The three guys you think of in that lineup now that will hurt you are
probably choo , pheralta and hafner and they are a combined 3 for 27 vs
blackburn. Hafner is coming off of a day off since liriano pitched
yesterday. So with the center of the lineup struggling so much vs
blackburn i dont see them producing a ton of runs today. Blackburn has
also been nothing short of great during day starts. just 59 hits in
roughly 70 innings. In addition to his good start vs cleveland this
year he was 3-0 with a 1.30 era against them last year. 2 starts AT
cleveland.
i think expecting a ton of runs from cleveland is problematic at best.
This will be carmona third start against minny this year with the two
previous being pretty ugly. Really his big problem has been walks which
is usually a bad recipe when facing the patient twins but i think
barrett behind the plate can minimize that problem to a degree. Unlike
the main bats for cleveland , the rbi bats for the twins hit carmona
well ..morneau .286 , kubel .500 , mauer .300

I like the A's

Tommy Hunter for the Rangers. Despite a rough last outing, he still has
a 2.63 ERA and his one lone road start was 6 innings of shut out ball.
I don't think the line is low when you realize Kinsler and Cruz are
both out for the Rangers. You never know what you are going to get with
Cahill for the A's. In his last 2 starts, he has thrown 10 1/3 innings
and allowed 18 hits and 12 earned runs. This year he has allowed an
appalling 23 HR's in 120 1/3 innings. He pitched well earlier this
season against the Rangers but I see value in Hunter against Cahill and
in the dynamics of the situation.

Excellent job on the Twins game GH. My book had dropped the line to 9. I bought the hook, but it made my line -130. I risked a lot more than you for nothing as it turned out. Did I do the right thing or should I just take it at -9 next time. I'm still new and learning. Best regards gh
