Kershaw is 9-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 17 starts since returning from knee and toe procedures in the offseason. The 37-year-old left-hander appears to be hitting his stride by going 5-0 with a 1.88 ERA in five August starts.
Kershaw, who is 4-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 13 career starts against Pittsburgh, has thrown more than 80 pitches in just two of his past five starts and 90 or more pitches in three of his 17 starts.
The Pirates will turn to right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski (3-7, 3.86 ERA) on Tuesday. Mlodzinski has been trying to make the best of his opportunities this season whether as a reliever, starter.
Mlodzinski will make his third start and fourth appearance since Aug. 17. He went four innings in an Aug. 17 start against the Chicago Cubs and three innings in a start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, when he gave up one run on three hits of an eventual 2-1 victory.
The Pirates lost 5-2 to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, but have been on one of their best stretches of the season. Pittsburgh has won nine of its past 13 games and has won the past two games in which Mlodzinski has pitched.
Mlodzinski will make his first career start against the Dodgers, although he has made three career relief appearances against them and has not allowed an earned run over three innings.

Cincinnati left-hander Nick Lodolo (8-7, 3.22 ERA) will take the mound on Tuesday for his first career appearance against Toronto.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays (79-59) will be looking to bounce back and not let their lead atop the American League East diminish any further. They have lost five of their past eight games, and the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have closed the gap, each now within 2 1/2 games.
"We've been through so many of these," Toronto manager John Schneider said. "I've said it before: This group is so good at moving on to the next thing, whether it's inning by inning -- which we saw in the ninth inning -- or day by day, you come ready to play tomorrow."
Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios (9-5, 3.95 ERA) will get the start on Tuesday. He is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA in four career starts against Cincinnati.
Toronto will be hoping he can go deep and give the beleaguered bullpen a breather.
"It's just getting these guys rest, and I just put it all on our starters," said Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt, who tossed the first six innings on Monday. "Our starters are that good where we can go deep into games. ... It's trying to get over six (innings). We have off days, so we can go over 100 pitches. We've got to figure out a way to go deep."

Javier is scheduled to start the opener of a three-game series against the New York Yankees (76-61) that begins on Tuesday. Left-hander Framber Valdez (12-7, 3.18 ERA) is receiving the starting assignment for Houston (76-62).
The primary concern moving forward for Garcia, who missed 28 months following Tommy John surgery in May 2023, is his lagging velocity. Garcia averaged 93-94 mph with his four-seam fastball pre-surgery, but averaged 91.4 mph on 38 four-seamers on Monday. The Astros are hopeful that Garcia can fully rebound and aren't leaning too deeply into concerns over his velocity.
He is 0-1 with a 6.46 ERA in 23 2/3 innings over five career starts against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision of a 5-4 road loss to the Yankees on Aug. 9 after yielding four runs on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout over 5 2/3 innings.
Left-hander Max Fried (14-5, 3.06 ERA) is scheduled to start the series opener for the Yankees. He allowed one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in an 11-2 home win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. It marked the first time since June 25 that Fried worked seven innings, a span of nine starts during which Fried was 3-3 with a 5.94 ERA.
Fried is 0-1 with a 3.78 ERA in 16 2/3 innings over three career starts against the Astros. He allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings in a 7-1 home loss to Houston on Aug. 10.
