Baltimore will go for a three-game sweep of the National League Central-worst Pittsburgh Pirates to wrap up a homestand on Thursday afternoon.
Baltimore will turn to Cade Povich (3-7, 5.16 ERA) as its starting pitcher on Thursday. The left-hander will be looking to notch victories in back-to-back starts for the first time after beating the San Diego Padres 7-5 on Sept. 3. He had a shutout through five innings but was charged with four runs without recording an out in the sixth.
That outcome was the first time the Orioles won in one of Povich's starts since June 15. He will be facing the Pirates for the first time.
Baltimore's pitching should be in good shape in terms of availability despite the consecutive extra-inning games. The Orioles' starters went into the seventh inning in both games of this series.
Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo (2-0, 2.70) is set for his sixth start of the season after missing all of last year following Tommy John surgery. He threw five innings in each of his past two starts, allowing only one unearned run and one hit on Friday in a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Oviedo has made just one appearance against the Orioles in his career, when he allowed one run in five-plus innings in a no-decision on May 12, 2023.

Houston's scheduled starter is right-hander Cristian Javier (1-2, 4.43), who is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA in three career starts against Toronto.

The Thursday pitching matchup will feature two left-handers, Miami's Ryan Weathers (1-1, 3.28 ERA) and Washington's MacKenzie Gore (5-13, 4.15).
This will be the first major league appearance for Weathers since June 7, as he has been sidelined due to a strained left lat. In two rehab starts for Triple-A Jacksonville the past two weeks, Weathers allowed a total of two runs in 7 1/3 innings while striking out nine and walking three.
In three lifetime starts against Washington, Weathers is 1-1 with an 8.22 ERA. In his career, he is far better on the road (8-10, 3.97 ERA) as opposed to at home (3-12, 6.29).
Gore is set to return from a 15-day stay on the injured list caused by left shoulder inflammation. He is looking for his first quality start since Aug. 15.
In six career starts against Miami, Gore is 2-3 with a 2.97 ERA, including an 0-2 mark with a 4.50 ERA in two outings this year.

The Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees with their pitching in frigid conditions in the opening weeks of the season.
New York's bullpen has allowed 19 runs and enters Cam Schlittler's 10th career start with a 4.54 ERA this season from its relievers and a 7.53 ERA against the Tigers.
In Friday's 7-1 home loss to Toronto, Schlittler (2-3, 3.24 ERA) allowed a career-worst four runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. His shortest career start occurred after the right-hander allowed one run over his previous three outings. This will be his first time facing Detroit.
After getting strong starts from Casey Mize and Jack Flaherty, the Tigers own a 1.40 ERA against the Yankees. Detroit will go with a bullpen game for the finale, with left-hander Tyler Holton (5-4, 3.80) getting the start and Sawyer Gipson-Long coming in as the bulk reliever.
Holton is 0-1 with a 1.46 ERA in eight appearances, all in relief, against the Yankees. The loss came in April, which also was the only time he gave up any runs (two) to New York.
