who cares about operating profit. . its one piece of the puzzle .. show me a list of total profit of every mlb team then pick a small market team and then tell me how u would able to sign a texiera and sign 24 other guys that can field a playoff team. and then after ur done tell me how ur gonna maintain those playoff aspirations year after year like the yankees do .. there is no competitive balance in baseball due to the market inequalities. . i dont understand how u cant see that

im sure nutting(pirates owner) is pocketing some of the money. .as a bus man why would i spend 50 mil on a team that can win 70 games when i can spend 30 mil on a team that can win 50 games.. . .
the question will come when the pirates field a competitive team. . by developing their own players ..drafting smart . .continuing to scout well overseas and setting up academies in latin america and so on and then adding a piece or two for their run ..then nutting will be held accountable for using whatever money he has to keep what players he can and try to keep that small window of opportunity open for a ws ring and by the way selig is a moron... he was gettin pissed at small market teams overpaying later round high upside draft picks cuz it was screwing up the economics of the draft . .not realizing that. . it was a way of small markets attempting to compete . .
selig needs to go. .he needs to learn from goddell and current commis on how to run a league he has done nothing but ruin the sport. . u need to step out of ur yankee mentality and look at the sport as a whole. . baseball is a joke. . and is losing its fan base rapidly. . before u know it nascar nba and even ufc will be ahead of what was the number 1 sport in america. . and the only cities that will care about mlb will be the new yorks las and bostons of the world

I just realized you never posted operating income. This is the income/profit after paying team salaries, receiving money from the revenue sharing system, and paying luxury tax. keep in mind that these numbers do not include team own subsidies such as YES and other revenue avenues.
Also it should be noted, which you failed to note, that baseball teams are privately owned and their books are closed to the public so the #s Forbes comes up with are estimates to the best of their knowledge.

And thax for posting taht cause again you just proved my point.... Now do all the numbers and tell me how much money Pittsbirgh has pocketed since 2005!!!!
Over 300 Million +
Not sure if you can't read but Pittsburgh only pocketed $21.9 million last year. So multiply that by 5 and its about $100 million. Lets say they were the #1 earner (35 million/yr)... That would come out to less than $200 million during the span.
$300 million
This is proving my point. Not proving your point at all. Despite the Pirates receiving a lot in revenue sharing they still only made $21.9 million and that number includes the millions they received in revenue sharing system.

Also the Yankees own every single concession in their ballpark. Jerry Jones and George Steinbrenner started their own company that supplies both their stadiums with all the concessions. They make 100% profit off of everything sold in both stadiums.

Cardinals are one of the smallest markets in all of sports ... AND HAVE 2 teams in the state... THEY PAY a luxuary tax, and share their revenue AND they are in the Smallest market
AHHHHHHHHHHH Do the research!
THEY PLAY IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. They have 2 opportunities to make the playoffs.
In the American league the Wild Card is a given to go to either the Yankees or Red Sox. Only 4 times in the past 15 years has the Wild Card not come from the AL East.
Kansas City and St. Louis are 2 seperate markets on opposite sides of the state. And they are basically right on the border of another state so St. Louis draws from Illinois also.

Your just still upset about Jeffrey Mayor robbing yo guys, and area huge Yankee Hater, which is fine, but the orioles suck, its no th the yankees fault
Its pathetic that you cannot even see how wrong you are despite pages and pages of facts and objective reasoning.
You come up with nonsense and distort facts and call them truths. You say they are businessmen yet don't want them running their franchises like a business and making SMART, LOGICAL investments. You for some reason think every single team can spend like the Yankees, which is 100% false because there is only one team that can spend like the Yankees and it is the Yankees.
You couldn't even touch on the YES network or how opposing teams get zero from playing the Yankees on YES. You don't understand players being under team control and arbitration before reaching FA which keeps players and team payrolls at a very low level because the players are being paid leage minimums and being paid under market value.
You cannot grasp how the Yankees have distorted the FA market and how average players now have ridiculous salaries do to their actions. There is about 10 points you ahve not even cared to touch on because you cannot come up with anything to dispute them.
The only thing you ahve said for the past 11 pages is revenue sharing and luxury tax. And owners pocketing money, and then make up absurd false amounts that they pocket, and then when shown how much they really profit you call it wrong and made up.
Ive already said that yes owners pocket money and they are doing nothing wrong because that money pocketed would nto put them in the playoffs anyway. They have no shot of getting a premium FA if the Yankees, Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Mets, Cubs, etc want the same player.
