Until he got injured in the 2nd inning May 7 after getting a hit in his only AB, Wilson Contreras, the starting catcher for the St.Louis Cardinals, was their best batter by far! (and still is!!)
Prior to getting injured, the CARDS had scored 126 runs over 36 games
A mediocre 3.5 rpg - WITH their best batter/slugger!
In the 16 games since he's been out, they have scored 75 runs!
A solid 4.68 rpg average WITHOUT their best batter/slugger!

Make no mistake, this dude and others I will identify in the future are GOOD starters - some of them exceptional! HOWEVER, probability says "consecutive streaks won't last long"...All GOOD pitchers will have an "off" day and get roughed up - sometimes mauled - before they resume their stellar pitching performances again. It happens to the best of them. Just CAN NOT be avoided.
When??? We can't know that for certain but my stats over many years indicate the time to start to worry is after they reach SEVEN (7) consecutive outings without a BAD one in that bunch (at any point in the season, not just from the start) Sure some HOT streaks may continue for 2 or 3 more performances....it happens! But for me, I don't need the stress that the bubble may burst that day. There's 14 other games to look at. I can simply skip those "HOT STREAK" dudes until *AFTER* their inevitable BAD outing beatdown, then resume looking at his starts after that!

haha, you know streaks will end vs even bigger jokes like the Mets as their 3rd baseman dropped a ground ball and a Met hitter had a 3-0 count with bases loaded, one out and popped up to wrap it up!!
then the Dodgers scored 5 and look out for game 2...once these losing streaks end, all the nerves, pressure abates and good teams go out and start killing teams again..plus the way the Mets blew this and the games vs SF, this could get ugly quick

Yeah, we're going through some weird cycle. Phillies, Dodgers, Braves, Cleveland all having lost recently once or twice as HEAVY ML FAVS
Just in the past 7 days, I count 15 wins and 10 losses by ML FAVS of -170+ .....which is a loser on the juice for sure.
And HEAVY FAV Phillies (-210) fall again....
Tuesday results? BIG FAT LOSER for 4th consecutive day!

**Note: Pit/Det G1 I have pegged also as a dead-even/coin-flipper game with no discernible edge to either team, suggesting getting decent PLUS MONEY on Pitts should be a good "value" bet.....except: Jones riding a tenuous 10-game hot streak means I am backing off due to the higher risk he may implode (since a bad outing MUST come sooner or later!)
I also have Cubs/Brewskys as a virtual coin-flipper too, where getting AT LEAST +120 or better on Brewskys may well be the good "value" play here.....BUT while Imanaga is riding a 9-game hot streak for Cubbies, and that is always a concern, he received extended rest since his last start was rained out....not sure how that plays into it.... but he is facing a Brewers team that does not bat well against lefties!! So if Imanaga is going to have an eventual BAD OUTING, it is far less likely to happen against a weak hitting-lefty team.... Meanwhile the Cubs are certainly no juggernaut at the plate either and facing Wilson who is solid! This one is too iffy for me. I don't HAVE TO bet on it just because it's there. PASS.
