    In Seattle's last 3 complete series they scored just 20 runs in 9 games.

            only 2.2 runs per game

  For the year, Dodgers are the #2 best scoring team with 5.22 rpg while the Padres are the worst in the league with only 3.91 ...

But not recently! 

Dodgers have only scored 36 runs over their last 9 games = 4.0 rpg 

Padres match that with 37 runs over their last 9 games!

MLB mean average is ~4.40

   Matchup of the Titans?

         Over their last 2 series, BRAVES are in a slump averaging 3.17 rpg

         Giants are averaging only 3.00 rpg

  The mighty DODGERS have the second HIGHEST  OBP (not OPS!) over last 30 days vs right-handed pitchers!

           .365   (mean is .326 vs righties)

          The #1 team OBP vs righties the last 30 days is Colorado! .375

           In my capping OPS is a stat more indicitive of run-scoring production, but OBP is a stat more indicitive of skill at the plate (ruling out luck factors like wind, errors and ballparks which aid the OPS stat)  There is fairly strong correlation between these two stats, but when I want to know a team or batter's SKILL level at the plate (ie, ruling out huge luck factors) I prefer the OBP stat.

And  over the past 30 days, vs righties, the ROCKIES are #1  

 WhiteSox slumping at the plate averaging just 3.17 rpg over last two series!

The WORST "team pitching ERA" in the league - over the last 30 days - is Minnesota. 

                   a whopping 5.90 ERA against them 

Rockies and Athletics numbers are slightly worse but that is directly affected by the ballparks they play in. Not so at Target Field in Minnesota.

     HOT STREAK WARNING!

           This STARTER is riding a tenuous  15-game  HOT STREAK, 

                       WITHOUT a BAD outing in that streak .....YET! 

           ...but this should be anticipated to end at anytime!!!             

Make no mistake, this dude and others I will identify in the future are GOOD starters - some of them exceptional! HOWEVER, probability says "consecutive streaks won't last long" especially AFTER 7 straight w/o a "bad outing"....All GOOD pitchers will, from time to time, have an "off" day and get roughed up - sometimes mauled - before they resume their stellar pitching performances again.    Best to avoid!

CAVEAT: even if the starter has a "bad outing" doesn't guarantee his team will lose! It just seriously weakens their chances! But his team's bats could come thru with a lot of runs to save the day.....maybe!   You decide.

Paul Skenes (Pitty) has started 16 games and only posted 3 "BAD outings"

During his innings on the mound he has personally limited opponents to a max of 2 runs in 12 of those 16 starts!  

He has a low 2.86 ERA and an exceptional 0.93 WHIP! 

BUT....great pitching does not necessarily translate into wins! 

The Pirates have managed to lose 10 of Skenes 16 starts including his last 7 consecutive  and they have only won 3 of his 9 HOME starts! 

Tonight the Pirates face ABBOTT (Cinci) who has pitched extremely well recent weeks!
