Houston Astros have tallied 151 runs over 29 games to end Sunday, April 26. That's a mean of 5.2 rpg listed on every MLB stat page.

But they scored 70 of those in the opening 10 games vs the .414 Angels, the .393 BoSox and @ the .536 Athletics...AT that point their RPG was a stellar 7.0 runs per game, leading many to think they had a AWESOME, highly potent offense!!

Over the more recent 19 games, they have scored just 81 runs, which is 4.26 rpg

So, when it comes to assessing their current offensive capability in upcoming games, should we project a likelyhood of scoring at or near their gross overall YTD avg of 5.2 rpg, or their recent 19 game avg of just 4.26 rpg?

There is a significant difference...

Similar analysis should apply to EVERY MLB team, not just Houston. Recent performances (2 or 3 series) is weighed much more heavily than YTD stats in my handicapping method...
