what? I've got a chunk to invest long term but can't see throwing it in the market right now as it appears to be peaking, & the bond market is faltering.

Maybe invest in some divvy-paying MF's or hold cash in a MM for a while?

Market seems over bought as I'm pondering the same thing.  Getting around 5k tax return and not sure where to park it.

MM is kind of beat to me as most pay <1%.

Maybe a Utilities ETF?  VPU.  Precious Metal and Mining fund again.  VGPMX

I don't know.  I do know to stay away from Oil and Healthcare right now.

Appreciate the input.......& the lack of a "put it all on the Super Bowl" comment.

This is a tough call right now. I know a mm is not a long term answer, but rather than just jump right into something I want to take some time before acting. I did fairly well last year (around 8%) but a good part of that was bonds early last year & the late rally after the election.......& all that was long term money that was already invested.

Sheesh I cant give any solid input at all, I have been wrong on this market for such a long time.

    I dont get 20k I dont get 15k I dont get 12k I dont get 10k..

To me I dont see the valuations as investable but the market can be wrong for a very very long time and has been.

Outside some little energy plays I am sitting like a dummy wondering how the crap it keeps going up.

Still appreciate you chiming in wallstreet.......
I share your sentiments which is why I'm stumped right now. It's tempting to short the market but I've seen what that did to a few wise guys last year. This is not money I'm willing to gamble with.

I wouldn't beat myself up If I were you as you're arguably the most knowledgeable poster on this site when it comes to this stuff.

Heres what i did years ago got a machine known as wire chopper can shred and chop any copper wires at 200 lbs per hr.

Got a garge a large scale for $500 when people nring wires to me

and to weigh mines when done i have so many electrical contractors around to buy thier scrap wires from plus the lil guys bring to me and they get paid a whopping 10 cents more per lb than spot which is $10 more per 100 lbs

I do not touch any appliance wires with all that junk on them i tell those go home clean it to only wires

OR you get  lowest price ever.

some desperate for cash take it lol i bought 200 lbs for 15 per lb a whole $30 when done i had 125 clean at top price $2.95 per lb

yeah took me forever to remove all that junk plastic steel aluminum

2 full days but what ROI $368.75 a $338 profit

averageing 1500 lbs per week about 25 hurs total time get wire strip it bring to yard get paid price today ehhhh only $1.98 per lb

    Copper aint going nowhere .

That's an interesting idea. I'm going to look into that. I know a guy that has some industrial property that I could set up in for cheap.

I share wallstreetcappers sentiment but whats the best way to fade this market? The short ETFs are not for long term plays and I am not trying to time a drop, just feel there is more a slow decline coming. Is Gold the way to go?

    Flutie, it's investing.

What you're doing is pure gambling.  (Of course stock market is the socially acceptable form of gambling, but you're buying stocks with betas far over 1).

You seem to be good at it and God Bless, but I'd never buy $5k worth of stock from these OTCs).

    Speaking of gambling.........just bought 1k of Dryships @ $1.85

I know, I know.......it's a pure gamble. But they just announced they were going to start paying a divi........not that I got in for that. Very volatile stock that could pop at any time. It's at a 52 week low.

The bulk of my $$ are still on the sideline........just not comfortable throwing it in the market at this time although I'm looking at some low-cost MF's........may ease in $50k at a time.

    It's only 1K so I wouldn't worry too much.

10k on the other hand, I'd be

You'll probably make a couple bucks, but even if you lost 50% it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I have 12k siding on the sidelines myself.  Looking at gold and silver stocks.  Thinking it may be a nice undervalue play and I may buy in as summer approaches.  Until then, I see them continuing to go down.

The dollar is kicking it's @ss right now.

Bulk on sidelines? I hope after recently pulling out with a solid profit? Hopefully you didn't sit on the sidelines during this nice run the last few years?

Any interest in BP? Deep Horizon's in the rear view mirror, a 7% dividend and any increase in the price of oil for any reason should increase the share price (Iran restrictions could be coming, North Korea playing around, any other oil disruption, maybe trump increases GDP, maybe trump gets us in trouble overseas, etc). BP will make a profit going forward and the dividend will provide a floor. They're not without issues.
    What's the disclaimer?
I currently own and will be adding to my current  portfolio........

A five month to the day update Bought 27 shares of MCKESSON @147.20 American and is trading @ 168.20. Our $ is within one cent of the transaction so no money being made on the $. 15$ in dividends paid so far! So pretty close to 12% ROI. Lets hope the back half is the same.

I just bought Yamana Gold at $2.44 a share yesterday.  3,100 shares.  Loving the bright side of the low-cap gold miner.

Just missed the day before the ex-dividend date.

How you doing with your cash Mugg?  Decide on anything yet outside of DryShips?
