I would feel ok taking a stab here, like I mentioned earlier it didnt seem a big rush at that price but under 20 it is more attractive.
If you wanted higher risk of course WM is out there, also KEY, WB, PNC, USB, WFC, SOV
When you look there are plenty of names yielding 5% and higher, I know it would be safer to play a bank which has less exposure to derivitives and mortgage instruments..

Still feel it has lower to go.I do not think the derivative disaster is done, really.That the Fed will, if necessary, end up owning them might prop their shares up, however.They are of course too big to allow to fail.
I do have some CDs maturing in a few weeks, but I am not eager to go long in anything yet.I think I will sit tight.I was just curious about what people think a few months after the original question was posed

fast forward to friday 3-14-08
C closed @ 19.78 and hit a 12 month intraday low of 19.54. that's almost a 50% haircut AND could JUST be the BEGINNING!!! 
I wouldn't touch ANY of these banks or brokers unless you don't mind standing under a falling safe

Where is this stock heading? Im in at $7.50/share and bought some more at $6.50. I figured it would be up to $9 or so by the new year, but every decent gain is followed by a dropoff the next day. I think theres some good profit to be had with Citi, but how long do we need to wait before that happens?

and HOW much "TARP" $$$$ have they given to these worthless bastards, clay? was watching an Ali Velshi business program on CNN last week and one of his guests said the government could have bought out EVERY toxic mortgage for ONE QUARTER of the cost of the "TARP" SO FAR.
Keith Olbermann calls the "TARP" "the Federal bailout OR, as the will be known in the future, WHY DADDY WENT TO PRISON". that will very well happen IF these Wall Street Weasels get audited by the incoming administration. almost $123 BILLION just for AIG? OUTRAGEOUS!!! for WHAT? for THAT kind of $$$$ the Feds should OWN them lock, stock and crooked cocksucker partridge shooting "executive"

Hate to say it, Rink, but the reality is this.......we haven't even begun to see the tip of the iceberg as far as how many of these "toxic assets" are on the books of these gdmf-ing worthless ticker symbols.
These no good scumbags, otherwise known as "executives," have sat on this money, paid themselves "bonuses," and refused to unfreeze any credit cause these iceholes know that their books are as horrific as one could possibly imagine.
We haven't even gottten started on how bad this is going to be.

Did you catch that Frontline show about the fiasco the other day? It was pretty good..talked about how the two big shots debated and dealt with the issues from LEH to AIG.
C is swirling, but we both know they wont let her fail. I have a mortgage with them, maybe it will be forgiven and I will have free title on the house?
