Hello Covers Community! It’s time to put our handicapping skills to the test this weekend. My post today will focus on a race being run on Saturday. Here goes…
I am going to avoid any contest that involves a guess. Meaning? Any race where a runner from the US doesn’t seem to be a standout, against unknown foreign entrants, I’m passing. I just don’t know enough about the ones coming in from across the pond. Jeez…this game is hard enough. My top race is the Filly & Mare Sprint.
My selection has a perfect post for her running style. Her trainer has secured a rider whose patience is exactly what will be needed on Saturday. She has only run four times on dirt, with three wins and a second. After scoring on her first dirt start, the connections put her in the most prestigious sprint race of the summer racing season in her next start. The Grade 1 Test at Saratoga. Breaking from the 2, she stumbled. Badly. Bad enough to have her jockey, Jose Ortiz, state in the post race interview that he was hoping to get a third place finish. She did not finish third. She won. At Saturday’s 7 furlongs distance. And, with the BC at Keeneland, it can’t hurt since it’s her home base.
In Kilwin’s last start, she finished a distant second to Ways and Means (who will be in the starting gate in the race). Ways and Means is really good…in New York. She hasn’t won a race outside of NY. As far as the race as a whole, there is a ton of speed and with the 1300 ft. stretch run at Keeneland, Javy should have my pick rrrrrrrolling home. Let’s go Kilwin!
I have a couple other ideas I’m working on for this Friday and Saturday. I will follow up with another post by Friday.
Good luck all!

Kilwin looks to be a horse for the course. I like the #1 horse here, Look Forward @ 20-1 coming into this race with a nice tightner under the belt. Horse loves 7 panels and won a grade 1 stakes as a 3 year old. Your horse just beat me 2 starts ago, but i get my rider back for this matchup. Race is full of speed to run at and Rispoli is one of the best in the business at coming off the pace. Will be playing your horse with others in a box, and betting the #1 to win as well.

Supplementing my top pick with a longshot on Saturday. I kept my hands in my pockets today because I sensed a parade of winners that wouldn’t provide much value. Well, that proved to be correct. Let’s go to tomorrow…
Going to the Dirt Mile. I was between two horses here and will key Forged Steel. My other is Bracket Buster. Will track exactas and play around there, but I will not let a 20-1 shot go without a WP bet. Forged Steel. His numbers for a mile race come up very strong.
Pretty stoked about Kilwin. Strong win bet and a place hedge bet. Cold double with Kilwin / Bacio. P3 with Steel and Buster in the 3rd leg.
Good luck all!
