That was pretty bad...I don't (at least I hope not) think he knew of the tragedy before the interview....

barbaro  2 or  3 years ago i believe just a horrific siting and ruin a whole day of horse racing like i said earlier i am done betting horse racing i love animals too much to watch something like this happen

And this is the legal, government sponsored and promoted way to gamble in the USA.
 
I watched 2 horse races in the past year - one yesterday and one today.  Today a horse died, and yesterday a horse broke his leg and is probably dead now.
 
I dont get it.  I dont think I want to get it.

I love the theatre of the races and the atmosphere but everytime i see something like this it just makes me sick!  Today was the first time i've ever bet on the poneys and will be the LAST time!  I'm not suggesting that there shouldnt be horse races or that people shouldnt have the right to wager on them its just not for me.  I had a feeling one way or the other with 20 horses in the race something was bound to happen! even tho that wasnt the cause of the injury today it very likely could have been!   I'm gonna keep my money on DUMB ASS HUMANS!

If I remember correctly, it was NBC that let that   Jim Gray trot out to Pete Rose during an All Star Game cermony and start shit about his gambling history and ban from baseball- ruin a very nice evening- not always the network's fault, but there appears to be poor judgement somewhere along the way there.

its sad but if some one dies playing football were not all gona stop playing this is sad but its part of the sport stuff happens this is not animal cruelty dont say it is if u eat meat.we should be talking about the next race, no disrespect it is sad

wahched something like this happen live ...horse went down 10ft infront of me ...right away the put it down ........the scene was quiet for like 5 mins..nothing said........then the announcer said AND NOW ON TO THE 5TH RACE.....shts sad

I have to disagree, it is very sad the filly passed but that is a reality of racing. I guarantee somewhere else in this country a horse an obscure horse at some obscure track will breakdown with no great fanfare.
Yet just like with people the death of a great, famous, or talented horse should be no less tragic then the death of an average one.

BB owners and connections should celebrate, and the primary owner referencing 8 belles was a stand up move.

Poor mr jones though I bet he is crushed

Im sorry, Me and My girlfriend do alot for animals here, and anytime a animal dies or something happens in that fashion no matter what the event, Like I said, I can care less about who won. Point is I understand that, its the reality of it and you make a great point, but what i was saying, is just that, when tragedy happens, say even with humans in a sport..I can care less of the outcome at that point.

this is definitely the last horse race I will ever bet...I guess the only good thing is that no other horses were hurt...it looked like there was going to be some trouble when the race started and they began to bunch up...it's very sad

So are you saying if an animal gets hit by a car outside yankee stadium the night the yankees ( or whoever you root for) win the world series  then the WS result meant nothing and is no reason to be joyous and celebrate?

What about the trainer Dutrow...his dad was a trainer 50 years never won the derby..both his brothers are trainers..his entire legacy and his historical place in the profession he loves was secured today and that is not as significant as a race horse dying during a race??
What about cows or chickens or pigs? why are they less important on the animal pecking order?  If you are going to say they are not pets and do not have a "social contract" with humans like horses do then how about dogs?? Dogs will be put to sleep in every major city in this country due to overcrowding this week and that is just reality. It sucks but what can you do?  I can not save the world and sadly no one else can.

HUMAN ATHLETE.....made the choice to play!, paid 4 and injected the STEROIDS that could make their muscles to overpowering for their bones! Financialy compinsated in away that if they did lose their life or become disabled(worth the risk because) there family and generations of future familly will have advantages!
 
HORSE TODAY.......pumped full of steroids(more than her bones could take) dont think she chose that or to race period, so that a human(with no athletic abillity) could win money threw sports.
oh well   just an animal i recon!

Well if you feel that way why do you support horseracing? You obviously watch it at least since these threads started 2 minutes after the race. Also do you feel the same way for the animals that are bred just for food? Do chickens make the choice to be eaten? or cows?..
