Wisdom Teeth

Who here has had theirs taken out? I am going in on Monday because mine are impacted and infected. I have been sick for about 4 weeks now so I'm hoping that this was the problem. Good or bad experiences?

I had mine put back in.....I have felt a whole lot wiser since doing so....

It sucks ass!!!  And you get food stuck in the socket holes for weeks....

demand the vicodin.  don't accept the "take motrin/ibuprofin" bullshit they will try 

damnit you guys were supposed to tell me this shit was a piece of cake! ha but I will for sure demand  vicoden or perks or something. Ibuprofin will not cut it

Here's all you need to know....




You do not want vicodin, fuck that garbage - tell them you recently had _____________ and the dr. gave you vicodin and it helped but you always felt sick to your stomach when you took them.  To a doc this means avoid large doses of acetominophen - in other words, percocet with no tylenol... it worked for me, I got thirty 5mg perc's... I have a slight tolerance to opiates and I was flying all week.  It said take .5 to 1 every 1-3 hours... so that's one every hour right? I'm tellin ya after 2 hours I could feel it (to my surprise) and after about 4 hours I was high all day Woohoo!  $3 for the script... when it ran out I had a refill so I got it refilled, then when I ran out again I had my follow up appointment - for whatever reason I didn't heal that quickly, I actually was in pain for a full 2 weeks, but to my surprise when I told him I still had pain there was no hesitiation - here's another script for percocet!  Wooooooo!!!



Anyway, about the procedure...

They also gave me ativan (mild xanax) for the night before and morning of, just so you can relax a little nad you aren't worked up about going into surgery or something.  I walked in, sat down, they slapped the gas on me, didn't even feel an IV or anything - 5 seconds later you are waking up high as a kite feeling like ten million bucks.  There was a cute girl in scrubs in the  room with me, so as I come out of it I see her and I go 'Hey'.... she smilles and says 'hi'...... I say... 'so... what am I on right now'..... she says, 'uhhh, propophol'

I practically fell out of my seat

"PROPOPHOL!!?" she's like 'Oh god, I shouldn't have said that'... I played it cool 'no no don't worry about it I won't tell anyone it's just propophol wow that's strong stuff, killed MJ, sweet haha'... she loved it.  I was all messed up for a while.  That propophol really kicks your ass.



Honestly, it does suck afterwards... especially with them being infected... but the operation itself is a breeze if anything it's actually enjoyable haha.  But after you have these strange holes in the back of your mouth, and everything you eat gets into it, it's very uncomfortable.  My pain lasted over 2 weeks, a lot longer than most people.  I didn't mind though, I was buzzed up the whole time, it was nice.




The only advice you NEED to know - do not smoke, or suck on anything.

People think you get dry sockets from smoking because the smoke gets in the wound.

You get dry sockets from the SUCKING on a cigarette - the blood clot sitting down in the hole waiting to heal gets sucked out, and the raw nerve is exposed, and you are just completely fucked.  They literally take a little metal thing and scrape everything out from around that nerve and then fill it in again.  You do not want to go through this.  Be very cautious.  This scared the shit out of me and I was afraid to do anything, and that little anxiety about constantly thinking something will get stuck in there and get infected or the thought that you will get a dry socket sucks... but after about 2 weeks your stitches will dissolve, and you'll be feeling a lot better.

IMO it's better to die on propophol than it is to live and have to be awake while they crack and rip those teeth out of your infected head.

I'm tellin ya.... walk in.... sit down..... 15 seconds later you wake up feeling like a million bucks.

After that all the anxiety and everything is gone and 'worst' feels like its over... really the next day you'll get a little sore and it might suck for about a week, but the operation itself is a breeze.

But remember - tell the doc when you took vicodin in the past it made you feel ill.... percs

 

lock? come on you know I dont believe in those! But thanks for all the advice, my buddies say that its pretty amazing too. Anything to get these fuckers out of me. They are blocking my sinus cavity too, so its rough. And I plan on having my buddies blow me some shotguns and taking nasals all week! I obviously smoked my ass off after I got mine pulled... if you want some tips I can help.

Basically avoid SUCTION and you will be fine.

Actually now that I think about it, I don't even remember how I did it - I was pretty high that whole week - but I think I had someone hit a bong or something for me, and then I would use a plastic straw (which I put all the way back near my throat so that the smoke wouldn't get into the cavities) and would just lightly suck it out of the bong.  Hmmm maybe that's not how I did it I think later in the week I got sick of that and I just smoked the bong, and was sure to make it sure it was all very clear to get the most airflow possible, pack it loosely, and take some night light hits.  I remember always trying to use my tongue to sort of cover the holes and try and keep the smoke out of the holes, but that probably didn't do anything.  I had no problems.

Don't smoke a cigarette, joint, or blunt, it's asking for a dry socket, and they are miserable.

Not that bad,  Just get the vicoden and you will be good.  THe worst part is cleaning your gaps in your mouth, as someone above mentioned.

yeah, I think it will be fine. Since I have been feeling shitty, I am pretty fucking excited to wake up geeked out of my mind. Spitfire, no joints or blunts for sure. If I got dry sockets, Id kill someone. But I think nasals and guns are gonna be the way to go!

I had all 4 removed at the same time and it wasn't as bad as I had thought it was going to be. The one thing I would suggest is do not get put under while they do it. They inject Novocain obviously but just use the laughing gas or whatever they call it. My brothers got put under and their recovery time was over a week. I played 18 holes of golf the next morning. Everybody is different but thought I would share my experience. I didn't need and drugs after either. Just a lot of pads to stop the bleeding

I didn't like the idea of nasals I don't put anything in my nose.  Except, ok forget that rule, I just don't like smoking through my nose.

Do shotguns with a straw... it will keep the smoke from getting into the holes.  The same way the smoke leaves some resin in a pipe, it could leave a little in a hole in your mouth... you're already infected.

And remember, don't listen to linny, you want percocet not vicodin.  Vicodin helped the pain but didn't sit well in your stomach last time, remember?

I forgot about the bleeding the first day after but its not bad.  You just stuff some gauze back there and change it frequently... you end up swallowing some blood which isn't great but its not like you have a mouthful of blood or anything, it just sort of seeps out.  Guess it can get kind of nasty that first day but you'll be really stoned for a while if they take care of you like I did, it won't get you down.

Get the Vicodin if you need it or not. From what you said, yours are infected, not good. My bottom ones came right out, I didn't even know he had pulled him. But, the tops were freaking terrible.

But you will live. As someone else mention you have to be careful what you eat. If you smoke, don't. You will develope "dry socket" which is worse than having the teeth pulled. You have to get them pulled, so go in with a positive attitude and get her done.

You should probably plan on not doing anything the next day, like work.

But yeah this was a terrible time for me to get these things out. I am not working right now, because I am a full time student.(Not that I couldnt work, but at this point, I dont need to) But the week after this is finals week, so I am hoping I heal up good. I wish I could have waited to get these out but like I said in another thread, this has been killing me. I have bad sinus problems and ears keep popping and I have been feeling really spacey for the last 4 weeks. So, they think its the teeth, so they are going to come out ASAP

And saying that vicodin made you feel ill won't get you stuck with big tylenols, because that's what makes vicodin hard on your stomach.  Percocet is stronger, and you aren't taking a ton of tylenol, so if they pain gets bad you just take another one.
