Black people from west african descent will never be as good as white people at swimming because of simple human race based biology and genetics.  I'm not being racist, I am giving genetics based reasons.  Like how black people get sickle cell anemia more than whites.  And how young white males have more breathing problems than any other race and gender combination.  There are so many things that are genetically race based, and the ability to swim is one of them.

East African black people like Obama's father have a completely different set of genetics when it comes to the muscular system than West Africans do.  If our ancestors had been sold slaves from East Africa, there would actually be more white people in the NBA than black people.  That is because the average white person has more fast twitch muscle fibers than the average east african black person (EA from here on out).  This is why you see so many Kenyans and Ethiopians winning marathons.  EA's actually have more slow twitch muscle fibers than whites do.  But EA's (on average) have less fast twitch muscle fibers than whites do.  So the average Kenyan black man like Obama cannot jump as high as the average German white man.

I learned all this stuff from my Anatomy teacher in pre-pharm.  Its been proven in research. 

Put a pool in every black neighborhood in the US and you still will not get many black swimmers.  If you do, they will likely be East African.  However probably over 99% of the black people in our country are of West African decent.  This is not something I know for sure but I do know it is up there.  I would say between 97-99% of the black people in the US are WA decent.

Obviously, anyone who puts in the effort and time, can learn to swim.  It could be a mental/psychological ordeal where folks know that swimming isn't a contact sport - and contact sports have flooded the airwaves.  I don't know.
