Lol that might be a start...but the "strike zone" right now is totally different from ump to ump...I have a feeling technology will eventually rule baseball (not humans), especially if they get a commish in there that is more of a contemporary kinda guy. Because right now Bud Selig is definitely an old school kinda guy.

How about getting rid of that seventh inning stretch? Do baseball players really need that short break time? Come on now.

earthWake, you gotta admit...its the whole once a week thing that leaves the fans wanting more. At the end of baseball season there is always that feeling of "finally, its over!" Then come March people start getting the baseball itch again but by midsummer its like "when is it gonna be playoff baseball?!?" The NFL is genius for that reason...always leaving the people wanting more.

Lol is there actually a longer period of time between the 7th inning than any other inning? I thought it was the same but they just throw that shit in there to wake people up hahaha?

The only possible way to ever speed a baseball game is this.

- If a batter steps out of the box, he gets a strike.

- if a pitcher leaves the dirt around the mound, he gets a ball.

Not just that but since football, both pro and college combined is on most nights of the week helps to explain why it's growing in popularity by so much. And that's not including all the bowl games from mid-december to early January too.

I spent a few summers going to Minute Maid Park growing up in Houston and I loved it...but there is just that sense the game was always 30mins-1hour too long, thats why people are getting hammered or sneaking in whiskey flasks (thats what we did, we were only 18-20 years old) and wasting 20 bucks on 3 cokes to make some stout as drinks lol. And god forbid the game goes in to extras...I was at a few games where it went 13-14 innings, talk about an all night affair.

Yeah, thats what makes college fairly genius...that long delay between thanksgiving and the start of bowl season...anticipation

With baseball its like, oh "the stros got a 4 game stint against the cubs, then a day off and they go to milwaukee for a 3 game stint"...baseball just comes down to winning series more or less, not individual games if that makes any sense.

Agree there is nothing like NFL sundays.

I love passing out drunk saturday night, setting my alarm for 12:57 pm on sunday and slummin all day just watchin football.

Sucks we have to wait 7 more months for it..Already miss it.

That's the time where they take a break to sing, "Take me out to the ball game" and other stuff, depending on the venues.

I understand it's tradition, but perhaps it's one worth doing away with if they can't shorten it other ways.

Lol yeah I know what they do during the 7th inning stretch but I never realized time wise, that it was any longer. Because in between all the other innings you get to play "find the baseball" and shit on the big screen.

So I wasn't sure if there was a extended amount of TIME in between the 7th than other innings...regardless, it adds 2 mins to the game max. They need to find a way to significantly reduce the game length

Well you got the draft to look forward to in April. Speaking of that, football drafts put MLB drafts to shame as well.

I know the nfl is better than mlb but their is just something about baseball.

Its the only sport I ever played on a team growing up, and there is something about those summer nights hanging out with your friends, drinking and watching baseball. Just something about it.

I can't even explain it, its just so pure.

How about limiting time in between innings? But that would cut into MLB's revenues so it's probably not going to work out. Unless they take a similar approach to  soccer and broadcast the game commercial free.

good discussion on living up baseball...

I think that purists would argue that any changes would be blasphemy to the religion of baseball...  any thing to make it more exciting would mess with traditionalists...

I think one standard by which to know how american a sport is would be to look at what percentage of the league is american...

football = almost everyone

baseball has a much larger international presence... less the soccer or hockey, but perhaps more then NBA

I know exactly what you mean. Lazy days of summer and the slow pace of baseball just go hand in hand.

Thats true kickingA, and big time soccer in Europe brings BIG TIME money...earthWake, funny you bring that up, baseball is the only game I never played on a team growing up. I played football, basketball, soccer, track, and golf....never baseball.

Speaking of the draft....MLB draft fucking sucks big ass. Half the guys drafted go in to the farm system for 3 years before they even make an appearance in the big leagues. Where as the NFL the first 3 rounds are crucial...but every round after that is where you find real gems like Tom Brady and such. 

Thats another thing...in NFL there is no real farm system, in MLB it seems like hell to just get an at bat if you are a mediocre player. IF you are a semi decent RB in the NFL odds are you will become a star like Matt Forte, DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles, Arian Foster...etc.

Yeah you mention the traditionalists but I think that they will die out one day just like the folks that think marijuana is ultra bad and cursed will die out and times will change (but please, lets not get on that topic...I am SICK of politics lol). But you get the idea.
