It would be my guess that it might have caused a tsunami that would have killed millions, possibly tens of millions world wide. But I don't know... which is why I'm asking.

Something else to think about: Isn't it funny that we didn't hear (in the news) about that thing coming?

I think what actually happened was that it exploded before contact with the surface of the planet. Most of these do. 10 tons is really a baby, nothing to worry about.

That huge asteroid, the one that was 150 yards long, if THAT came into our atmosphere, it most definitely would have hit the surface and caused a tsunami.

Trapstar... rocafella...  I would bet large sums of money that you have no idea how big a meteor would have to be to cause a tsunami.  Then there&#39;s other variables such as the depth of the water, the location it hits, etc.  What if the meteor hit the ocean floor and caused a shift in the plates?  I&#39;ve heard scientists say that a meteor the size of a car could do considerable damage upon impact.  Feel free to post any knowledge you can share in lieu of posting rolling laughing heads (if you can).

some reports say tunguska meteor actually did not impact earth but exploded in earths atmosphere.i would think if one that size impacted in or over an ocean it would cause a great tsunami

The yahoo article quoted scientists, we get one of this magnitude every few days, they harmlessly fall into the ocean or remote areas.  This one. Made news because of the injury toll and great video.

According to models, the meteor would have to be over 300 m across before the damage caused by a tsunami from an ocean impact would be greater than a direct land impact. The last major impactor (Tunguska) was about 50 m, and objects that size hit Earth about once every 100 years. A 300 m plus sized meteor would be a lot more rare, so 99.9% of the time you&#x27;d want it to land in the ocean.

I welcome a catastrophic event like this. Need to thin out the growing population a bit as we will eventually reach a critical threshold of consuming valuable resources such as fresh water.

Europa... cool vid.  If that was coming I would invest in as much weed as possible and I would be as high as I could possibly be until it came.  Why the f&#252;ck not?  I would spend time with friends and family, and enjoy the last week of my life to it&#39;s fullest. It was said that this latest meteor strike was a "once in a 100 year event"

So why worry? Or, even think about it.

Something like this will happen again for sure, but none of us commenting about this mild explosion event will be alive to see or feel it when it does happen again.
