 What is the enterprise value on Intel, what is their share price, how much does Intel have in cash right now?

Are we an economy that mirrors capitalism or are we a dictatorship where the government owns private companies when they feel the need to and there is not a perilous economic impact if they didnt?

I am fully aware of Intel we have multiple friends and neighbors that work at Intel, my direct neighbor across the street was let go on the last furlough after working there 25 years. I understand the company quite well and that includes the Foundry division, I know many who work in both segments.

It is idiotic for Trump to even suggest taking a stake in Intel nor would it do ANY business good. Does Intel need cash? No...they do not. Would the government and especially the BK King Trump add ANY business value to Intel? NO...why would Trump trash the CEO like a week ago, have the CEO over for burgers and fries then suggest that the government take a stake in the company? 

Someone put a muzzle on this idiot, the government has no business taking a stake in a public company, even when they took pref shares of Goldman and Citi etc during the crisis they were not taking a direct ownership or having any involvement in the business function.

The problem at Intel has everything to do with prior decisions and pivots, they ignored the AI pivot and got bit, they got lazy and soft on their PC division and shifted from a divi play to not and then considering dumping foundry and a massive issue of indecision and leadership for a solid decade is what caused this. Hearing from a GOP supporter that the government should take a stake in a public company is bizarre to be honest. It wont happen and if it did I would short the living crap out of the stock given its share price, balance sheet and yet ANOTHER horrible business decision (to let the government take a stake).

And many of the bad decisions being made by  der Führer of the MAGA Reich run contrary to what the American public wants.

I don’t have any specific knowledge about Intel, but markets don’t like government intervention without reason. I've also heard about other "domains" where he's stuck his nose in where it doesn't belong. It's not the president's job to dictate what kind of sugar Coca-Cola uses to make its Cokes, which CEO should be fired, etc.

The president's job is to set the ground rules and let the market decide the most efficient and cheapest way to operate under those rules. He isn't supposed to micromanage every company conducting business on U.S. soil - and maybe even if it was a presidents job we might have to discuss prior if he even have a good track record of running businesses - I have heard somewhere that he would have had more money if he never had done business but just invested the money he inherited from his father

 Intel is obviously cash rich. It's Intel. They have been raking it in for decades. You mention the stock price though. Intel has lost half of It's value in the last few years. That's glaring. I've held Intel stock for close to 19 years. It is literally the only stock I have lost money on. They lost close to 20 billion in 2024. They're on pace for massive losses in 2025. A huge chuck of this loss is in the foundries. It's not like they dumped 15 billion into R&D. They're cutting jobs. Can we please not act like they're humming along and Trump's assertions are unfounded.

Look, I don't agree with his methodology. He routinely says the quiet part aloud. He speaks, often via social media, when he should be asking. He is not wrong here though. Some companies, by their very existence, are imperative to America's success. Most of these are defense contractors. Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon, etc. Intel is kind of in that same boat, in a way. Right now, our reliance on Taiwanese semiconductors has become a potential national security risk. We have to explore tne option of divesting in Taiwan. We can't have a banner American company, who is a major player in this arena, even begin to show signs of struggle.

We, as a country, our politicians specifically, both sides, tell all kinds of ghost stories to rile up respective bases. Yet here is a real nightmare scenario and it's never talked about. The situation with Taiwan is a national security risk. China controlling some insane amount, like 90% of the world's rare earth minerals, is a national security risk. We need to start addressing some of these things. And government involvement/investment can be a good thing. Look what it did for the covid vaccine.

Either you are in support of our economic system or you are not. If you support this involvement you are saying capitalism only works when a politician says it works, the market has winners and losers so the reality is if Intel keeps making bad decisions (like this) they will lose period.

Ive followed Intel since the 90s and they had a near monopoly on the consumer market which was more likely due to Microsoft than Intel per say but the reason they lost their dominance is decisions made by several sets of management and Trump cannot fix this, Intel is not critical to the economy and if they fall there will be someone to step in and take that place there already is. There are MANY chip makers and the fact is Intel screwed up by not being aggressive towards the market that AMD now dominates and they let the smaller players get larger positions due to a lack of competitive decisions and by a mistake of financial engineering. 

How could any GOP supporter be in favor of the government owning even 10% of a public company? Trump thinks his bright ideas are a solution when they are not and even if the government took a 50% stake it would not improve the inefficiencies and bloat that exist at Intel. My neighbor started in one position and shifted between several schemes that they tried and scrapped including autonomous driving, cell phone and something regarding security, they strayed away from their core competencies and got lazy, their foundry division is inefficient and has too many layers of management. My neighbor over the last decade mentioned several missteps including allowing middle managers to control the dynamic of a department and a total lack of comprehensive management so one group would isolate and that would make it difficult to work with other groups and departments and nothing got done, innovation and creativity was lost and direction was misplaced. 

What from a corporate perspective could Trump or ANY government politician do to improve the decisions Intel has been making? Send Elon Musk to make an internal audit and fire half of the staff? This is idiotic and chaotic and you will see that if Intel on its own does not take strong decisive action their stock will continue to hang in the low 20s here. You should have been range trading it, I made 60% on my swing shares, it has gone from below 20 to 23 multiple times this year, if you are holding and hoping for an AMD style run you might continue to be unhappy, the answer is not Trump and the government if anything it shows a lack of corporate leadership and grasping at straws, there is a good reason the stock reversed today....this is another awful decision by Intel, this CEO should step down even engaging in a discussion with someone who has ZERO clue about the business or anything financially related.

In 63 years on this planet, i have never seen so many people who have totally stopped using their own brains and just take trumps word as if he is some sort of human God. Its downright scary.

A few misconceptions to clear up that get attached to me, quite unceremoniously and unfairly. For one, I am not a blind adherent to any political party. I dislike all politicians equally. I think they're all scum. I think our two party system is political theatre. I think we are a corporate oligarchy, and both sides serve the same masters. I have been registered Republican for the majority of my adult life but i'm not registered as anything now. I still consider myself Republican but I did vote for Obama twice. And I like Bernie, and he's as liberal as it gets. As far as my support for Trump, with Clinton, Biden, and Harris as candidates, there was never really a question of who I supported.

Likewise, i'm not a blind adherent to any economic system. To be clear, I believe in the spirit of capitalism. However, regardless of system, man will always be man. So any system will always be distorted by man's greed. When we hear of failed communist regimes, we are always referring to communist dictatorships. And likewise, in America no, this isn't the capitalism of our grandfathers. As I said before, it's a corporate oligarchy.

With all that said, while owning a percentage of Intel outright is not necessarily the answer, I think government involvement at this juncture is imperative. You bring up AMD. AMD sources their semiconductors to Taiwan. They don't have the foundries that Intel has. My whole stance is based on my believe that out reliance on Taiwanese semiconductors is a national security risk. So asking the question of what Trump brings to the table, it's not like he's gonna be sitting in board meetings telling them how to run the company. And it's not like he pulled Intel oit of his arse. Do you think it's a coincidence that he all of a sudden has an interest in Intel? China is our biggest rival, and our biggest threat. It's bad enough that several Presidents have sat idle why China has wrestled control of the globes rare earth minerals, to the tunes of something insane like 90%. That's a national security risk in and of itself. And the issue is Taiwan poses a national security risk. We have do divest from the Taiwan. If we are to do this, if even at all possible, Intel has to play a major role. This is why Trump is all of a sudden interested in Intel.

Absurd for Trump to consider Kirk for presidential medal of freedom.  This would be like rewarding Fox news for promoting far right extremism.  Unlike other presidents, Trump pardons are mostly personal or self serving.  Presidential award is supposed to recognize individuals who made exceptional contributions to US security or national interest, to world peace or to culture or other significant endeavor.
