No words can heal goose. I remember losing my dog when I was about 17...about 10 years ago. Itw as very sad. Sounds like you and Butch were a dynamic duo. I feel your pain and feel for you.
 
Once again it is moments like this that makes us think how petty we can be over stupid things,, like internet arguments and getting mad because we got stuck at a red light. Puts so much into perspective.
 
Butch is in a great place right now, and one day I am sure you will reunite. Think back to all the good times and know that that dog loved you very much, just as you did him. You were great to him and he was to you. Take care sir, and focus on the great stuff

I had to have a cat of 15 years put to sleep last year.  My girls reaction made it even tougher when I came home without the cat.  Tore my heart out.
 
We have a dog that is 11 now and almost died last year.  I cannot imagine how hard that is going to be becuase she sleeps with my wife and me every night and has a ton of personality.  Amazing a dachshund could be as close as she is to us.

 Because of this thread I took my dogs to their favorite spot today instead of watching the Ravens/Dolphins game.My day was far better because of it.   
 
 I was thinking of you and Butch and hoping that you were doing O.K..

MY Oreo is the greatest thing to ever happen to me. She runs like a cheetah, swims like a fish, and loves me no matter what kind of mood im in. She always sleeps with me and always greets me at the door. She goes with me anytime I'm going somewhere. She would rather sit in the car than be without me. When my wife and I left her for a week my asshole in law said they had to force food on her becuase she was so heart broken. The day I lose Oreo will be the worst day in my life. I cant imagine being without her.

My friend is going thru something similar right now. The vet said JAKE has less than a week to go. He decided to let him die naturally becuase the vet said he is in no pain.

Sorry for your loss, I cant imgine how much it hurts.

lost my Rot 6 years ago...never thought i would be so messed up about losing a dog...but i knew him longer than I knew my wife.  Took me 3 years to get another dog...

My family's dog is 14.  He has 2 bad hips, can barely hear anything anymore, doesn't see too well, he has an inner ear problem so he's very off balance which doesn't mix well with the blows out hips, doesnt have full control over when he shits anymore... its really sad.  You don't want to see your dog go out like this, in a very slow deteriorating life.  Not only is he making a lot of trouble for my parents but he seems miserable to me... he still is happy at times... like when he is eating, or thinks he might get food soon... and thats about it.

Butch went out on top... who wouldn't want that?

That sucks. Sorry for your loss. I had to put down 2 of my German Shepherds in the last 3 years so I feel for you. My kids took it hard.

I will be honest. I didn’t want to open his thread. I have a dog that is 14 years old and just like your dog he is my best friend. Dog goes fishing, watches TV . .amazing dog . .  .

 

During the day he spends his time in a local store front . . everyone in the neighborhood knows him by name

 

I hope this offers u some wisdom . .

 

You dog lived his life and I am sure it was a great life . .

 

People don’t live that long!

 

He went out at top . . and he will always be there…

 

When our pooches passes away it is said that they become our guardian angles . .

Im sorry to hear about that bro it such a sad thing to lose an animal/best friend  when you have taken care of them for so long I wish you the best bro.....

Very sorry you lost your best bud ! I lost my first dog when I was 8 and didn't get another (boxer) till I was 36 because it hurt so much. Now I am 43 and he is 7 and having some heart problems and I hate the thought of the day he passes. I hope I can be there with him like you were for your friend. Really sorry  Goose.

p.s. I wish I were half as good of a person as my dog thinks I am!!!!!

Very sorry to hear about this...  I will say that I have two pets right now (cat and dog) who are both in their primes and cannot imagine what it will be like when they pass. RIP Butch.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

Wow, the response from the COVERS community was fantastic.  Thanks for everybody's support and kind words to help me through this heartbreaking event.  Very much appreciated.

We had Butch cremated on Monday and I will keep his ashes in a urn, on display along with his collar.  He was truly a rags to riches story and lived a great dog life.  No regrets.
