The end of online gambling is near

The Conservative Government of Canada has given no indication that internet gaming will be made illegal. 

Of course they would never say it in a campaign.  Just like they won't say anything about file sharing issues, net neutrality, etc

I don't see what all the fuss is about. These are international companies with international customers. How is the FBI going to waltz in and shut them down? They still have tons of customers in Europe and Canada.

Pokerstars was located in the US and I think maybe Full tilt and Ulitimate Bet too. No surprise they get shut down, being in the US.

But these internationals? NO fuking way.

Bodog sure as hell wont be shutdown. They have strong business outside the US and could give a rats ass about the stupid FBI. Since when does the FBI have some type of international world police jurisdiction?

I can assure you that Calvin Ayre (owner of Bodog) gives a lot more than a rats ass about the FBI.

Love this as a response and a way that these companies have vowed to fight on. The European domain name is a great idea. Whether or not the companies will get any real support from the EU is immaterial. But this whole fiasco will strike a chord with the vast majority of Europeans. If the European Union's citizens were speaking as a whole, and actually said what they wanted to say, a letter to the Americans might go something like this:

 

Dear Mr. President,

"It has come to our attention that one of your states has unilaterally decided to try and shut down 3 legal internet sites. They have even gone so far as to shut down the .com name so the companies are forced to employ the .EU domain name. We find it amazing, preposterous, and incredibly arrogant that a division of your country (the state of New York) feels that it is within its rights to try to close down a company and seize some of its assets. This wasn't even done at a Federal level so that it would give the impression that this was coming from the top dog himself, it came from some trumped up attorney in New York.

The last time we checked, these are 3 companies that did business on the internet. They have tens of thousands of people's money held by them. The actions of your country means that many of your citizens couldn't even withdraw money for a time - there was no way of getting a hold of the company as their websites had been effectively frozen by someone in your country. So permit us to speak candidly and off the record for a minute here, Mr. President. Of course what will be reported by us to the media will be the usual fake smiles and niceties. But let us ask you a lil something.

What the fuck is your problem? Do you own the fucking internet? These are legal companies. They happen to have online poker as a business model. You guys have your knickers in a twist about some farcical moralistic ceremony involving the legality of transfering gambling money over state lines. Get over yourself why don't you. Oh, before you get into it, yes we are eternally grateful that you deployed troops in Europe in the 1940's. Apparently we are not allowed to forget it, so thanks again!

Now where were we? Oh yes, we were talking about your countries total arrogance that you think you weild supreme executive power over the internet. The last time we checked, the three online poker sites you bozos tried to shut down were legal businesses not even on American soil. It isn't as if they are a Ponzi scheme or an international drug cartel. If you think that the companies are laundering money, fine charge the American citizens within the corporation with tax evasion. If you think that they have systematically set up shell businesses to get deposits from American citizens, sure go after them on that. But how about doing that on your own fucking time and in your own country. How about letting these companies carry on business as usual.

Hate to break it to you there O-Bam, but the rest of the world is tired of your arrogance. We don't care if Republicans or Democrats are the ones behind legislating online gambling. Even your staunchest allies in the European Union look at this latest stunt as the USA thinking that they can stamp their morality and rights on the rest of the world. In some of our countries we have bookies on every corner and hash bars and legalized prostitution. You guys think it is your God given right to shut down international companies because a small part of them has broken some antiquated morality law about transfering some money to actually make a bet. Oh, before we go - congratulations to your Green Bay Packers for winning your football championship! Or as as you all say, 'the world champions'. Before it is too late, please do the rest of the planet a favour and get the fuck over yourselves. It is getting irksome. Have a swell day!

What "right" of yours is being "trampled"?  Your right to break laws you don't agree with?  If the allegations are true, then these poker sites broke the law, and they are being prosecuted for it.  It is that simple.  If you don't like the law, move to Canada, or start a petition.

It is only meant as a warning to keep your eyes and ears open - and be aware of changing circumstances in the offshore landscape.

Nobody would be happier than me to see this all work out for the best - but if you have money in a book that accepts American players - the simple fact is that your money has never been in more risk than right now.  Is it panic time?  I wouldnt say that, but this is just a call to educate yourself as to what is going on and make your own decision based on your risk tolerance.
