you lose a lot of credibility when you assume people against you on this are either burnouts or do drugs. whether you believe this or not, i haven';t used a drug in over two years now, i'm sorry to say.
anyway, i don't necessarily disagree with you in principle. i don't think taxpayer money should go to marijuana, or things that are worse for you and contribute to high health care costs like alcohol, cigarettes and the worst of all, sugar. but that's life.
i'm talking about this targeted welfare testing. to just focus on that is stupid and discriminatory. just about everyone gets financial benefits from the government. do you really think it's worth it to increase the size of government exponentially to catch a few people smoking a plant?
and if you think this law is anything other than a windfall for some medical company who gets a huge contract paid by the taxpayers then i don't think you understand how corporate welfare works.

Also, if you look at the numbers, crime induced by alcohol is much higher than crime as a result of drug use. Some people have suggested to give drugs to the ones that need them and can't afford them, then treat them at the same time to kick the habit. If drugs were legalized, the government would be making HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS and they could afford to do this. Crime would drop, drug use would stay about the same (I wouldn't go out and buy heroine if it became legal tomorrow. Nor would most non-heroine users), addiction rates would drop. There would be millions of jobs created from the manufacturing, distribution, sale, treatment, and education systems. Other countries have done this (see Zurich, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweeden, Denmark) and have experienced tremendous results.
There are many books on this subject. Jeffrey Miron is an economist out of Harvard and he is a genius. He also will tell about a thousand reasons why this makes sense. We spend so much many fighting the drugs, throw people in jail more than any country in the world, and put people in the firing line every day. How many cops have died leaving behind families? How many kids have died because of OD?
The U.S. has 760 prisoners per 100,000 citizens. That's not just many more than in most other developed countries but seven to 10 times as many. Japan has 63 per 100,000, Germany has 90, France has 96, South Korea has 97, and Britain--with a rate among the highest--has 153. Even developing countries that are well known for their crime problems have a third of U.S. numbers. Mexico has 208 prisoners per 100,000 citizens, and Brazil has 242.
well how about this genius, maybe at some point the people in our country realize that when they do illegal drugs or commit crimes they go to jail. Your solution is just let all these people out of jail, because they are only doing drugs So when they got no money to buy the drugs, they can go commit a crime to pay for their drugs. Great friggin logic and that is expected from a drug user like yourself
If building more jails is needed to keep all these people from committing more crimes on members of society, then so be it.
All the people in jail in are in there and got nobody to blame but themselves.

lmfaoooooooooooo yes pot is the only drug people on welfare are buying, friggin clueless.
Its funny, your solution is since others are getting away with something, lets not try to stop anything. Lets just keep giving away money to people to sit home and get high all day, instead of motivating them to get up and try to get a job.
No wonder generation after generation of families are all on welfare. Really why go get a job, when theres guys like you and steel saying let them have the money. Geez, maybe i should have did that 30 years ago, instead of working

you may mention coroprate welfare a lot but you're entirely missing it here. who do you think is making the money off of this program? and look at florida and you'll see what relationship that company has with the governor who pushed this stupid program. here's the result in florida - taxpayers paid a lot of money to run the program, about 100 tested positive out of over 4000 tested and i'm sure the company that gets the government contract to do the testing will make millions. so who wins there? millions for some company, about 100 caught using drugs. in whose world is that worth it?
and yes my solution is to let them get away with it because my solution is never to increase the size of government and spend a shitload of taxpayer money on programs that do next to nothing.

great country. my money can be taken from me, given to others to use to buy illegal drugs, but i cant use my own money to buy a gun. and guys like Club are for welfare people being able to buy drugs with others money and for having my weapons taken away. Thanks Club, country needs more logical thinkers like you
Maybe someday when that person on welfare comes to rob your house and hurt you or a member of your family because they need more money for more drugs, but you dont have any way to defend yourself, you will wake up and realize that you are wrong on both of these subjects.
As much as i depise corporate welfare, at least i know nobody from a corporation is ever gonna come and try to break in my house and hurt me, unlike the strung over welfare drug user who needs more money to keep their high going.
I believe if a person earns their own money, then they can buy whatever they want with it.

so let me guess your solution is to just look the other way and let those 100 go. Sorry but those 100 are breaking the law and could one day be breaking into your house to commit a worse crime. 2 wrongs dont make a right. You should have been taught that growing up.
Heres a thought, how about they figure out a less costly way to solve this problem, instead of just giving up.

dude, you've lost it. the two things you said i said in your first paragraph are the opposite of what i've said on those two issues. i feel like i'm talking to 1daroad. on the drug issue, i said taxpayer money shouldn't go to buying drugs but welfare drug testing is not an effective way to accomplish that. the florida example proves it.
on gun control, all my posts have been against it since this latest shooting.
how could your comprehension on this site be so poor, none of this is that complicated.
i'm afraid i'm going to have to agree with steel about you. you're acting like an idiot., you need to rehab yourself.

Clubs logic is to look the other way and let other people use my money to buy illegal drugs, but then he doesnt want to allow me to use my own money to buy a gun. You are a swell guy, thank you for being so generous with my cash and life

ok, what's this one?
yes, i don't want a shitload of taxpayer money being spent on 100 drug users. that's my position all day, every day. how much taxpayer money do you want to spend to stop 100 people from using drugs? put a number on that for me. and what makes you think stopping them from getting welfare will stop them from using drugs? where's the evidence of that?
you understand the law allows another parent or guardian to take the test and get the welfare? so if someone can come up with a clean drug test, they still get the mmoney. you really think the government is going to stp anyone from using drugs with this. maybe 50 of those 100 people? how much of our taxpayer money is that worth? put a number on that for us.
Heres a thought, how about they figure out a less costly way to solve this problem, instead of just giving up
yeah, good thought. with the war on drugs decades old and taxpayers being tens of billions in the hole with no signs of any success whatsoever, let's all hold our breath for the government to find a cheap, efficient andf effective way to stop people from doing drugs. that'll come along any day now.
bigger government and spending more taxpayer money is always the answer for some people. i don;t understand why.

ok, said i wouldn't call people derogatory names here except when said name was specifically created to describe someone (i.e. 14daroad). but you're now making garbage up about what i said so to that extent, you've gone off the deep end. otherwise, i have no problem discussing your arguments.

whatever loser.
I really never expected a differnt answer from a drug user. All of you drug users logic is, let the welfare people keep spending others money to buy drugs, because you are for drug use
Lets not try to figure out a way to stop this, nope lets just give up.
Heres a news flash, i would rather see my money being wasted on drug tests to stop those 100 people {which am sure it will be a whole lot more} then just letting those 100 people use my money to buy their drugs Fuccccccccck them. Its about principle. clearly something you lack in your life

sorry pal am very far from clueless. Problem is you are si entreched in your drug use, you think everybody is wrong because they dont sit around the house getting high all day. If you want to use your money you earned every week to buy drugs, thats your choice, i reall dont give a Rats Assssssssssssssss. But i dont want my tax dollars paying for people to get high, its a pretty simple concept. So dont see here because your a total burnout and expect everybody else in society to be like you, cause a bigger majority arent dope heads like you.
Once again cd you come with some common sense and logic. Great points you make. You're so full of fact and knowledge it scares me. I'm done with you... it's like debating with a child. You're in the minority dumbass. Most people want it legalized because they know it's harmless. Look up "Gallup Poll" on Google. You know how to use Google?
Good luck.

Don't think anyone in this thread has a good grasp on what the drug issues are. Hate to break it to you...but cannabis is not the problem or issue with the poor and middle class. Heroine is probably the biggest problem on the streets right now.
Drugs like Heroine and crack are the drugs that are highly addictive which leads to people wasting all of their money on it.
People who smoke pot are still capable of functioning in society...same with alcohol. But things like crack and heroine damage the brain to the point where they cannot focus on anything other than their next fix.
Giving people with these addictions money is a very bad idea and policy. They give that money over immediately and then are in the same boat they were before. I think more money needs to be spent in treatment facilities. The amount of addicted is bigger than the government says.
Point is if you are going to have a debate about drugs and welfare...at least talk about the drugs that are the major issue...and cannabis isn't it.

sparty, i don't necessarily agree with that as we see very few heroin cases come through, maybe a handful a year. but that really isn't the point. the point is this welfare drug testing has been done in florida. out of 4,000 + people tested, only about 100 tested positive for any illegal drug. in other words, it doesn't work and it's a big waste of money.
by the way, the most common drugs "on the street" so to speak are prescription drugs along with marijuana (if you want to call that a drug) and then crack and meth.

sparty, i don't necessarily agree with that as we see very few heroin cases come through, maybe a handful a year. but that really isn't the point. the point is this welfare drug testing has been done in florida. out of 4,000 + people tested, only about 100 tested positive for any illegal drug. in other words, it doesn't work and it's a big waste of money.
by the way, the most common drugs "on the street" so to speak are prescription drugs along with marijuana (if you want to call that a drug) and then crack and meth.
In Michigan heroine and crack are the major culprits. Heroine abuse in my area has become so bad that a special local task force was setup to discuss what should be done. The biggest abusers are young people...they start on vicodin and oxycodin and the graduate up to heroine and/or crack. What state are you located in?

I don't believe in testing either...but I also don't believe in giving people money without strings. When you give people a check with no strings they can spend the money on things its not designed for. And if you have an addiction...thats going to trump everything else

i'm referring to georgia and florida. don't see much heroin at all down here, mostly painkillers, crack, meth and marijuana. but it certainly could be different in other places.

Cannabis is of course the most widely used illicit drug, but like Sparty said, cocaine and heroine cause more problems and addiction. But cd seems to have all the answers. Just test everybody, then they will get jobs. Problem solved. Thanks cd. You should run for president.

take a hike. you are nothing but a burnout punk who thinks everybody should do drugs because you do. I got no use for idiots like you. Now go sit around on your saturday getting high.
Like i said already, i would rather see my money get wasted away trying to stop the people from using my money to buy illegal drugs, then just give up and say here you go, take my money and buy all the damn drugs you want.
Maybe someday you will grow up steel and stop being a little drug child

Maybe if all the liberal sissies grew a backbone, they could change the way they give other peoples money away to welfare people, instead of just trying to get votes
