yeah wendyrox, when you consider that no other cause on the history of this earth has contributed to death and destruction like organized religions have, not the least of which are two of the more similar an popular today- christianty and islam, some people may harbor some resentment towards religions that stems from something other than their sexual orientation.  just a thought.

I think simple logic has most people questioning christianity, not being abused or being gay.  Christianity is one of the youngest religions out there.  It's new and always adapting to current times.  Why all of a sudden is it right over all the other ones?  Especially the ones taht have existed for over 5,000 years, not 1,500 like christianity.

If you can find peace in believing in a magic guy in the sky, that's fine.  But don't judge other people and assume they are gay or molested or whatever else you just said.

I am a proud atheist. My morals and values are very similar to those of moderately religious people but the difference is I don't believe in any God or Godly figure of any sort.

 
I am part of society. Society has come together and enacted laws and regulations that govern the society we live in. As a member of society I agree to these laws and regulations and will be punished by the law if I break them. The reason I have these morals and values is because I value human life and respect other members of society. Regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation etc, in my eyes everyone is equal. I am not racist, sexist, a homohphobe or anything of the sort. I have free will and can make choices without fear of a God. I do not fear God. I do not fear the prospect of God. I do not fear hell . I do not fear any of these things.     
 
Everyday I wake up with a clear mind. Free of the religious bull shit that plagues people all around me. Living an atheist life is wonderful.

Good post, good thread. Maybe one day people will at least educate themselves on the endless conflicts and suffering throughout human history resulting from religion.

I think you have this backwards...  Homosexuals are not against or for religion... Just like normal population there are homosexuals that are very religious, and those who are not...

It is the religious people that are against homosexuals and therefore, some thing about that seems to spark a strong emotional reaction... this aggressive reaction is a product of their own issues...

And of course we then get into the logical and simple truth that Shakespere put as "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

It is those who protest and speak out against homosexuality that are the ones that are having issues with it...

Freud called it "reaction formation" where and individual takes a strong opposing view point to the truth of their urges that they know are immoral, unacceptable and inappropriate...

The fact that Wenysrox would even bring up the topic and accuse another person of, would lead the whole forum to believe that he is actually the one with latent homosexuality...  Which he then tries to "project" his closet homosexual fantasies on others...

A classic example of this phenomena is  conservative republican politician Larry Craig... 

Sorry Wendyrox, but when you chose to post that, you exposed your self to the entire site as the "closet  person" of covers...

Perhaps you should take it to your gay websites that you then delete in your history so that whatever woman in your life that you use as your "heterosexual alibi/cover" does not find it and expose you to your pastor and congregation...

Its funny you say this.  Did you see the documentary on Monday night on HBO?  I dont know the name of it, but it was basically everything you just said here....

People who make insignificant characteristics a priority in their life usually are exactly the characteristic they try to attack.  The fact that he is so interested in naming someone else homosexual or abused with no reason, has to make you wonder.

The vast majority of the earth's human inhabitants believe in God.  Most of them are not "obviously from certain parts of the country".  In fact, I would wager that most church-attending people in the United States are, like me, college educated.

people are brainwashed to hate christianity.  imo the driving force behind that hate is a product of a few things.  First and foremost being this

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender

If a fundamental point of their religion is not to be a debt slave, then it should quickly become clear how and why many are brainwashed to hate Christianity.  And it's not that all debt is evil, it's more that they teach to examine the pros/cons of (eternal) indebtedness

Not to mention that Christians, for the most part, are good people that care about themselves, hold themselves accountable for their own actions, and take it upon themselves to help one another.  I know it's hard for many around here to wrap their head around it, but even today with the poor state of modern organized religion, churchies as a whole still provide society with more positives then negatives

B:  The fact that most of the earth's inhabitants believe in a God in no way proves anything, especially that God exists.  However, the whole of human history and the vast majority of worldwide theism suggests an inate human connection with something larger than oneself.  Of course, religion has been used for evil in the past by many people.  However, pointing that out as a reason that religion is silly, outdated, or dangerous is a truly ignorant comment (though what should I expect while debating covers posters).
 
As of a Gallup poll in February, only 4 in 10 Americans believe in evolution.  So the point that I was making is that you may bash others and think that you are somehow in the majority, but you are really just showing your ignorance of US and world opinion.  Granted, more people with college degrees believe in evolution, as opposed to those who are less educated, but there are many, many post-bach and higher educated people like me who are very intelligent who believe strongly that the earth's functions indicate a Creator.

Colleges and college degrees cause more harm to humanity as a whole then do organized religions.  That's the problem with confusing instruction with education, not saying that all universities and their attendees fall under that blanket statement, but i'd bet the majority do.  For many, college degrees are just a piece of paper that can be bought

a very short time ago, various religious people thought rainbows were the path to heaven.  it's unclear if any of them ever climbed one and made it to heaven.  many other religions believed the rainbow was some sort of sign from their god.  of course, as people got smarter and science came into the picture to provide facts, rainbows were known to be caused simply by light refracted by water.  

and many other religious beliefs were dispelled as people got smarter and many more will be in the future as people get smarter and learn more and have greater access to information.  we're just at one point on the continuum between creating explanations for things like rainbows, lightning, the shape of the earth, biogenesis, etc out of nothing and proving facts through evidence and science. 

and of course, evolution, a scientific fact, is behind us on that continuum for the most part, not in front of us.  

but most people believed rainbows were the path to heaven because it felt comfortable to believe that and people tend to do things that make them feel comfortable.  it's not mentally comfortable to say, "I don't know" or one day we'll all just disappear.  it's much better to think of things like 72 virgins and heaven, etc and until someone can prove there those 72 virgins aren't waiting up there for us, religious people can easily turn their brains on to that belief and those similar.

6 in 10 educated people "believe" in evolution
8 in 10 highly educated people "believe" in evolution
 
99.99% of scientists consider evolution a FACT.
 
4 out of 10 covers posters also "believe" that games are fixed and hedging parlays are a good idea.
 
99% of religious nutbags dont understand evolution, and therefore reject it.
