Is 29 too old to go back to college?

Question

I&#x27;m 29 years old and have about 55 college Units under my belt. I am still not even sure what my major is, but I have decided to stay sober and go back to school and finish this time.Honestly, I can&#x27;t help but shake the fact that I am too old and I feel like a loser. Of course I am fully aware that there are people much older than me who don&#x27;t have any college credits at all.Its kind of a personal psychological barrier that I am dealing with for some reason.I welcome any thoughts or comments or personal experiences about this.

29 is definitely not too old but I would seriously think about a major 1st before you waste time/money.

Decide on what you want to do and go after it. Doing what you want in your mid 30's is not too late.

Never too old to go back to school, especially if it helps further you along your career path. Alot of people pursue degrees and/or take night courses to give them that extra edge at work when it comes down to promotion time, or to help them get an even better job, so if you can afford it, by all means go for it.

Don't live a life of regret.

Life is too damn short. Set your goal.  Put your head down and charge ahead.  Sometimes it doesn&#x27;t matter what anyone else thinks.  If you want something...go get it.  Good Luck.

I am 34 and have been in sales for the last 7 years. And well the way the economy is sales isn&#x27;t the best industry to be in, so I have been looking at going back to school. The problem is I haven&#x27;t done any Algebra, Calculus, Trig etc in like 17 years and to be admitted to college you have to pass admission tests. So far that&#x27;s my only hurdle, but no 29 isn&#x27;t too old. Just try and figure out what you are going to do as VegasVet said. I don&#x27;t want to go back just to go back. I want to be able to get a job in that industry.

Went back when I was 41. People (students) will love your "experience"..................Being 40 and looking at 20 was fun, too.

I wish i was sober during university .... i made it through .... post grad as well but i really don't feel like i learned shit. I never went to class and life was one big party for 5 years. I'm just lucky that i'm naturally smart and could pretty much skim a text book the days before an exam and get decent marks. I'm working on an accounting designation now and I'm taking it a lot more seriously ... re-learning all the shit i should have learned when i forked out all that money the first time around.

You're never too old to grow up. Who gives a shit what other people in your class might think.

I went back to school at 26 and graduated when I turned 28. It wasnt too late. I was more focused this time around. Didnt give two shits about partying with the 18-20 year olds.

29 is young. I am a senior now and every class i have taken this year has had at least 3 people over 40 finishing up their degrees. Pick what you will enjoy and get it done

More and more people much older than you are going back to school now, especially as jobs are harder to find. Don't hesitate to go back and finish up, you certainly are not too old to go back to school.

The more education you have definitely doesn't hurt. Of course soon the way this country is headed, you will need a college degree to take orders at Burger King, and that will be considered a good career move.

If you are subconscious about going during the day with the "younger" crowd. Go at night, where there more working people trying to advance themselves of varying ages. Most of those are at least college aged or older. Not all that many fresh out of high school, as most of those attend school during the day.

i mean if you try and integrate yourself right into the party scene like the 19-20 yr olds, they will probably poke at you, but outside of that, so many people are going back for classes. If you are merely going for classes and maybe meet a few friends along the way, not a problem at all. I graduated with a phys ed degree with a couple people from URI who were in their mid 30&#x27;s...and they were all cool with us...granted they didnt really party with us, but hey, they were welcome to!

Not sure if this guy is for real or not, but I'll bite......

Went back to school at age 30, graduated three years later, no big deal. Believe me, you're still young enough at 29 to be included, but old enough to know better. I got good grades, stayed focused and got a good job after graduation. Something that would have never happened in my early 20's.

Yeah, the young kids will notice you're a little older, but you're not that much older, which leads to my next post.....

I know where you&#x27;re coming from Hawk, but I can tell you this.....If you were the old, non-trad sitting in the front row, asking a million questions every class, and telling stories about how the lecture "reminded you of something" the kids freakin&#x27; hated you - believe me.

I agree with MWC...saw a few of those in my day and it was annoying.

Just integrate yourself a little and you are fine...29 is still very young. THe students wont look at you crazy at all, you are young enough to be included easily.
