I'm in Connecticut.  Just got back from the grocery store.  You'd think the end of the world is coming this weekend.  Shelves are stripped of Water, bread, batteries, etc.

Help!  I'm surrounded by idiots.

I'm in North Jersey and it's the same.  I don't know how bad it affected you guys, but Passaic County was shot after Irene last year.

If I miss work or school b/c of this damn thing, I'm going to be pissed.

Goose, don't under estimate this storm. I have lived through a few..when forecasters are nervous, you had better heed their warnings.

Gas UP. no telling how long the power will be out !

Buy candles, batteries, water, canned tuna, peanut butter etc. and Yes BREAD !

Mike Seidel of the Weather Channel was stationed in Palm Beach, FL this morning. Bundled in a windbreaker he was bracing himself bravely against the brisk 15mph breeze and 2-3 foot surf  as a light mist fell to the ground. I e-mailed him and noted what a trooper he was, braving these extreme conditions for the benefit of all mankind.

I drove home from work 9/11.  The gas station close to my place was PACKED to the gills. Cars were backed up onto the street....people buying gallons of water.  I saw one guy filling up some kind of 55 gallon (it's a guess as to the size) drum in the back of his truck.  

It's one thing being smart.  It's another thing being over the top insane.

Pretty strong winds here now in Daytona. I would be surprised if my power is still on in the AM.

I'm in NY and its in the 70's but if this storm hits next week with an Alberta cold front sliding east we could be in for 1 mother f%#& of a Nor"easter. Power companys are already gearing up for ice and power loss.

Yup, power just went out. Probally 30-40mph winds heavy bands of rain.

Did it hit the coast yet?  Will make impact I heard in Boston with 76 mph winds.  And some areas will get snow on the east coast and in W.virginia.

I love how people buy bread pre-"Big Storm". 

It is one of the most common perishable foods in a grocery store. What do people expect? That they will be huddled in their basement with a flashlight, a bottle of poland spring and a fist full of crumpled English Muffins? And if you are, wouldn't you be there for more than 7 days?

Why not buy avocados and green bananas too and hope they ripen while the power is out...

Anyone remember Irene?

Hurricane Irene caused MUCH MORE upset than this.

These storms are a GOLDMINE for all news channels. Their highest ratings of the year come during predicted storms and the buildup therein. They ALWAYS make it out worse than it is. It's inherent in their "better safe than sorry" and revenue-generating mentality. 

Also, politicians look like heros during these things. OVERESTIMATE the damage pre-storm and they come to your pulpit of mics and flashbulbs after the storm and tell everyone how safe you would have been.

Underestimate the preparations and point to how resilient your city's population is and how you will 'plow ahead' to normalcy.

The storm will be bad but not as bad as they are making it out to be. 

Politicians and Local/National news channels during big weather events...

Chris Christie is now telling people on the East Coast to make sure your electronic devices are FULLY CHARGED while we have power!!! 

OK OK!!! I'll make sure my ipad has a FULL GREEN BATTERY now because who knows when I'll need to watch a cat flushing a toilet on youtube when the power is out for two weeks!

5 types of people behind Chris Christie when he give these "Big Weather" press conferences:

1) One woman because a woman has a role in his government somehwere/somehow and now you know women will be safe during these events because when you know leadership cares about women enough to employ them, they will protect ALL WOMEN.

2) A police captain with a look on his face like he is an MMA fighter. He'll be READY to FIGHT this storm and that means your state is SAFE.

3) A fire captain with an intimidating look as well, but not as intimidating as the police captain.

4) 4 guys in white polo shirts with grimaces and handlebar mustaches. We don't know their function, but they look READY too!

5) Some guy with very thin glasses and a light blue collared shirt. He poses as the ' storm expert.' He could be an expert in shiatsu massage but that doesn't matter. We need a smart looking guy up there to feel comfortable.
