A mother was handcuffed and arrested in Florence, South Carolina for cheering too loudly at her daughter’s high-school graduation. She was taken to the detention center and booked for disorderly conduct. The incident was shocking to those who attended the school event.

This all happened after parents were warned not to cheer, yell, or shout during the roll call.

However, Shannon Cooper chose to break the rule and cheer her graduate on anyway, which got her arrested for disorderly conduct.

“Don’t scream, don’t cheer. No, I’m thinking in my mind. No, I’mma cheer because, you know, I went through too much to get her to this point. I can’t show my excitement? I can’t cheer? I can’t applaud her letting her know yes, I’m so proud of you, like all the other years when people graduate. How can I not cheer for my child?,” Cooper said.

Cooper was kept in jail for hours before she was allowed to pay 225 dollars to be released.

Pamela Little-McDaniel, a spokeswoman for the school district, told ABC News, “Because three high schools were graduating together, it was important to ensure that every parent was able to hear their child’s name called. The school sent out multiple notices to all parents requesting their cooperation and warning them that cheering or yelling could get them removed by police from the ceremony.”

“The school did try to communicate this information with the parent, so everyone would be able to hear the ceremony and hear their child’s name get called,” she added.

    lol you've really become psychotic.

You take it to this extreme and try to corner anybody that comments, no matter what word they use to try and prove your point, that yes, they really are racist.

I mean I really don't see how race applies to this at all.  Why anybody would post black people standing up/cheering during graduation statistics comparable to white people.

This is really stupid man.  Once you get past this psychotic phase of yours, you will come back to this thread and have a good laugh at yourself.  At least I hope for your sanity.

Move along.. there is nothing to see here. A black person getting arrested for the same thing that a white person has been arrested for. Just another idiotic thread.

Because, this is all he has.   A sad little life where he just wants to argue.   He keeps saying he will stop coming into the GD because it's such a cesspool of humanity, yet here he is AGAIN with some bullshit trying to stir the pot.

Because, this is all he has.   A sad little life where he just wants to argue.   He keeps saying he will stop coming into the GD because it's such a cesspool of humanity, yet here he is AGAIN with some bullshit trying to stir the pot.

“The school did try to communicate this information with the parent, so everyone would be able to hear the ceremony and hear their child’s name get called,” she added.

its not a black thing ... this is happening everywhere

You do know Shannon Cooper was also (wait for it) black....

Why turn it into a black/white thing when I, DoubleUp4Life, just gave you an example of ...getting arrested while cheering at a graduation....while black, hence the very title of the OP's thread....

Folks, the posters here are PURE GOLD....every one of them.

I was at a graduation where they asked the same thing of the audience.  White, Black, Hispanic and Middle Eastern.  Many idiots from all races in the audience couldn't understand simple instructions. Made it difficult for the MC to call out the names so they could be heard.  For those of us that listened to the simple instructions it was very annoying.  Yep that's right Scully, idiots come in all colors.

While I feel they went overboard in Miss. I understand people being frustrated.  Hoop and holler all you want after all the names have been called.

C'mon Scully, there have got to be better racism stories than this one. You look desperate and foolish posting this stuff.  If you need my help with REAL stories of racism let me know.

    Actually I don't look desperate.

These are actually the very stories that highlight what it is to be Black in America, that is, that even the slightest infraction of any rule, no matter the circumstance, can lead to the harshest penalty, even death (just ask Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Akai Gurley etc. etc. etc.).

Ya see, the Black community is constantly harassed (and jailed, fined, roughed up, even killed etc.) in ways the white community knows nothing of.

Why do you think this story made national headlines??? Because it was a COMMON occurrence? That's what makes DoubleUp4Life look like a fool. It is news PRECISELY because this doesn't happen in communities at graduation in general. And even he cited another story where a black family was jailed and fined for the exact same thing, hence, supporting my point.

It was taken so far as to fine the family and face JAIL TIME for ...cheering at a graduation.

Now, your example of asking a crowd not to engage in a certain behavior is far different than possibly ARRESTING someone for doing that very thing.

And lo and behold, it's in South Carolina, a state that is still proud to fly the Confederate flag over it's Capitol Building.

The very fact you think this is desperate and foolish shows the chasm you have with any understanding of black life in America, hence your attitude in general and Drizzle calling me 'psychotic.'

You're in your own little world with little understanding of anything else when it comes to life in the black community.

I'll keep posting what is purportedly 'ridiculous' stories precisely because they are ridiculous....that is, ridiculous when a black individual is involved....but not so ridiculous when those blacks are fined, arrested, roughed up, jailed, and possibly killed.

I am calling you psychotic because everyday you threaten to leave GD and never return, be it that there are nothing but bigots, pigs, racists and hate-mongering monsters in here that, in your eyes, look like the Miami University school board during the Jimmy Johnson era.

So it is psychotic to continue to post things like this, knowing that you will not forcibly change anybody as an outcome, yet you continue to put in a consistent, tiring effort to get a point across to otherwise deaf ears.

One could not even say that blacks and whites commit heinous crimes without you berating them for being racist by mentioning crime and black in the same sentence.  It's almost like you want people to believe that no black person has ever committed a violent crime.  That to even think a black person could commit a felony would be to forever label yourself as a bigot coward.

There are a lot of sane, educated people on here that are fully aware that we cannot comprehend what it is like for a clean, non-violent black individual to be probed and screened by the police, because, well at least for me, I don't walk in that shade of skin.  I also don't know what it is like to walk in the footsteps of a Muslim when he/she steps foot in an airport and the higher-intensity type atmosphere they must face due to stereotype.  But it is almost like you are faulting and branding us all because we don't have the ability to walk in those shoes.  What kind of person acts like this, other than a psychotic?

Not to mention, every single time I ask you what are you doing to help the black community, you say nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  The surest bet I could ever make with myself is that I have done more than you ever will in that forum.

So there you go.  You don't want to make a difference, but just be a problem at the end of the day.  You are a false prophet.  You preach, you cry, you demand change, but you put no honest tangible effort other than to antagonize and play racist-hunter on Covers' General Discussion.

So I threaten to leave...every day...

Even with hyperbole, that statement in and of itself is borderline...psychotic it is so detached from reality.

And when have I ever said blacks have never committed a violent crime or even implied as such?

Again, because of your age, and/or your education level, and/or your reading comprehension skills (or lack thereof), you fail to see I continually say the posters here FOCUS on posting almost solely about black violent crime (and then you have a little degradation party about the black race in general in such threads), hence, and I've done this for nine years (11 with wagerline), I bring balance to the forum with counter-stories.

So be careful who you are addressing because you will be held accountable for misinformed, if not, completely asinine statements, just as I had to do to DoubleUP above (and that took less than two seconds to do).

And believe me, calling out you closet bigots daily IS making a change. Because although you'll never change in the near future, there will come a day, likely some 75 years from today where you and your ilk here will have that 'eureka' moment of, "Damn, I really was being a f***ing racist all those years wasn't I!" And although that's worth little to nothing, it is worth a little, in that at least as you leave this world with your last breath, you'll have the realization you took millions of breaths trying to make it all the more miserable by dehumanizing one particular race (and that dehumanization leads to a general zeitgeist of life and death consequences, if not misery in the least). And if I were that person? Well, I feel mighty bad for ya if that's how I went out...

That's precisely how bigots think Train. You are a perfect example.

    Apparently Shannon missed the notices.

Oh, and one other thing, I about fell out of my chair reading the Don King quote.

This is a guy that stole Mike Tyson blind along with all the losers associated with him.  He was well taken care of by Cus D'Dmato and Kevin Rooney (both white guys) before King came around got hold of him.

    You crack me up.

Getting removed by police seems a bit different being served an arrest warrant and fined doesn't it.

So to use your little confused emoticon there, here ya go...

Be careful who I am addressing?  I'm sorry, I had no idea you were of such prominent authority that I should be so mindful of my words towards you.  I'll address a clown when I read one.  If I want to disrespect you, I certainly will, because I receive NO respect back.  You call me a bigot but can't find exactly where my bigotry lies in this forum.  I sure searched, and for the life of me, I can't see where somebody else could think that I would feel so bad about the "hateful" words I spewed on General Discussion about blacks that I "damnn, really think I was a fuckking racist," years later.  In fact, years later, the only scalabrine I will remember will be the one that laced up for the Boston Celtics.  You'll be nothing more than a used Kleenex.  You and whatever point you thought you were proving will be nothing years later.  I'll remember the Chevy Chase Show before I remember Covers' scalabrine.

So instead you danced around the question for I believe the 4th straight time now.  Clearly what you are doing here is not helping the black community.  But then let's compare the yeoman's work that you think you do to that of somebody who actually goes out, volunteers to clean up neighborhoods, stock food shelters, tutoring, coaching baseball leagues, cleaning up parks, giving baseball tickets, autographed memorabilia and cash prizes for a church raffle, in which the original cash prize had been stolen.  This to benefit both the black and white population who equally share said community.

When I get old, I can look back and see a life that wasn't all selfish.  I did my part, and I was happy to try my best at doing it, knowing I was just one person.

For you, what will it be?  I mean maybe you lead a better life than you portray on GD.  I hope this is only a fraction of what your life consists of, because here, you are nothing but a false prophet trying to make what you deem to be all racists understand what they are doing wrong one Youtube video of the time.  How pointless.  That's like a 16 year old trying to push safe sex by posting one brazzers video at a time on Chatroulette.

Your words, the majority of them, are just rhetoric.  RHETORIC.  They have no solution, and clearly you do nothing--outside of greasing up your keyboard every night to talk on f**king gambling sites--to help black, white, hispanic, asian, muslim or indian communities.  So don't sit here and berate a person who actually does give back, because it is insulting, and to the third party reading, makes you look like nothing more than a typical assshole.
Really, at the end of the day, I believe YOU should be careful who YOU are addressing.

Not at all, if I am told police will be involved I never assume anything.  I have had enough run ins with them throughout life to know better.  I am a firm believer in common sense now that I am older as well.
