White House is FANTASTIC. Grew up eating Philly Cheese Steaks. White House matches anybody in Philly.
Someone mentioned Capriottis too. The bobbie and the Cran Slam Club are phenomenal. Thanksgiving on a fresh roll (fresh real turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce) So goood.

Sparky please dont tell me you are talking about the Jasons deli here in texas. This place is awful. I am from ny and nothing compares to the great sandwiches up there.

I tried the White House a while back and I was shocked at how slow they were and how small the place is. If you have such a great business and clientele I would think they might have expanded and invested in the business, which they havent.
The chicken cheesesteak was good for sure..price was reasonable too.

have you ever seen a nostalgic shop like the White House, try to go modern?? Never works, and they start changing little things that they had done a certain way for decades. I think patrons enjoy it just the way it is, and i hope they never change a thing.
THe crammed little corner sub shop that you have to wait in a line out the door and it takes 30-45 minutes to get the food, is all part of what makes them great. When it comes to food, good things come to those who wait. There's something to waiting and watching while it's prepared that make it more gratifying,,,,,if you want quick and convenient there's a McDonalds right around the corner from White House, but i'm not sure you'd call what they are selling food. If you cook for yourself, you know it always tastes better no matter what it is when you go through the process.
I have a local sub shop here in Lancaster, where many of us agree best cheeseburger sub in the world. It's owned by an old greek dude that does all the work hisself and hasn't changed much a thing about the place in twenty+ years,,,,,and his prices are still stuck in the '90's. It doesn't matter if you call ahead, you still end up there talking with the guy (deciphering what he's saying in broken english) and it normally takes about 45 minutes for a cheeseburger sub, and it's not because he's busy, just because he's slow

The chix came from this pressed package thing which the guy chopped up, I think I prefer the mound of chix versus the pressed stuff, but the roll was good and the cheese etc..so I was pleased.

was in manhattan on monday and will be again on friday
you can get a simple turkey sandwich for $6 in any of 100 deli/cafes that blow the doors off most sandwiches from anywhere in the country
its the water used for the bread

I know it might sound strange, but in Memphis, Tn., there is a little deli called Fino's on the Hill that is absolutely phenomenal. Closest to a NYC deli that I've ever seen. Some of the best Italian cured meats I have ever had. Pricey, but worth every penny!
