Go see a doctor. He'll prescribe you an anti-depressant which fights anxiety and depression both. Takes some time to work. I have the same issue. The drugs nowadays don't make you dopey, it just keeps you from getting anxious, especially when things that would make you anxious occur. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world either.

I'm on lexapro (10-15 mg's....I was prescribed 20, but I take a half to 3/4 of a tablet and that helps me out a lot).

My situation was where I would have panic attacks.  I couldn't even get in my car at times to drive my dad to the doctor....I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack. I couldn't concentrate at work....I'd be doing one thing and pretty soon I'd be thinking about 3 other things and would work myself into a frenzy.

I thought I was going to die on a plane flight one time because I was so worked up.

Exercise helps me.  Diet helps me.  But I would have lost my mind by now if I hadn't gotten some help.  I also have a really minor prescription for xanax for flying and other really anxiety provoking times.  But that works on your central nervous system.....anti anxiety drugs work on your brain chemistry.

My side effects:  I last longer in bed, but I still have no problem getting to the end even if I have been drinking.  I get a little dry mouth (I also drink a ton of water).  I put on a few pounds, but if you exercise and eat well, that's not an issue.  I also have some of the most unbelieveable dreams....some are fantastic (the sex dreams are out of this world), others not so fun.  I do get night sweats sometimes....especially when I wake up from the crazier dreams.

I suffered for over 2 years before I got help.  That was the dumbest thing I ever did.

    Go see someone.

    Bingo.

Its just a matter of time until mental illness is understood, and it is a simple electric misfiring that they can pinpoint with medication or something else.

Unfortunately, we are in the embryonic stages of mental illness and brain disorder research - but there should be no stigma attached to this.  I read the Junior Seau comments and cant believe these uninformed mouthbreathers who say he is some kind of asshole or selfish - they dont understand the desperation and pain of these people in this situation.

Go see a doctor.  There are medications that do wonders for people.

Most of all, do something.  Talk to someone other than here.

    Good luck.

Van, I couldnt agree more. I read a few of the posts in the Seau thread and it made me sick. Some people are just so ignorant its sick. Calling the man a coward and such, they have no idea what they are talking about.

Go see a doctor.  There are medications that do wonders for people.

Most of all, do something.  Talk to someone other than here.

yes if the cause of the anxiety can't be removed, as Van says seek professional help, not the opinions on here

i know why vanzack says that, god knows there are no shortage of stupid responses to much simpler issues, but there may be people if not here but somewhere less traditional with experience with this kind of thing who can offer some helpful suggestions.

while i'm sure there are many people who see a doctor, get medication and do better, there are also people who go from doctor to doctor only to have them listen for a few minutes, run a bunch of blood tests and then experiment with worthless prescription drugs for years like they are lab rats and the doctors get free trips and blowjobs from hot reps for using the medications from pfizer.

that's not much of an answer but my point is i would try to find a few people with experience and keep my options open.  most people don't know a fuckin thing about mental illness and i'm not sure how many doctors do either.

Klonopin (sp).   As soon as an attack would come on I could pop one and feel normal in 10 minutes.   Lay off caffiene....drugs and alcohol obviously.   Something has to be triggering you...you may not know what it is right away but hopefully you find out.  Good luck

Don't go to a doctor. They are legalized drug dealers. Taking a prescription is like covering a bullet wound w/ a band-aid. Every disease is emotion based. Buy a book by Louise Hay called " You can heal yourself." You can get to the root of the problem by digging deeper into what's causing the physical manifestation. It cured my Ulcerative Colitis, and also by staying away from gluten. Good luck bud..

Just interested, you say don't go to a doctor. Did you diagnose yourself with ulcerative colitis or did you go and see a doctor.

if so,   so he not first have the anxiety diagnosed correctly

do you guys recommend anything? paxil, wellbutrin(?), etc ...

i'm all set with a benzodiazepine prescription but i'm open to other ideas ..............

there aren't many places to talk about this kind of thing ... usually it's just me and a dr i don't respect.

part of me thinks that taking something is throwing in the towel in a way ...

Don't get me wrong, Doctor's are great at diagnosing what your issue is. Curing it is another issue. There is a place for doctor's but in the realm of curing you, it's not their forte. Like i said earlier, your DNA can evolve and retract your healh issues no matter what the doom and gloom docs say. We are eternal beings w/ the ability to heal yourself thru alternative methods. But you first have to believe. W/out that you will always be their lab rat.

Thanks, you are cured ?, or are you really in remission. And if you have a recurrence of symptoms (relapse) will you just consult the book you quoted or will you head back to the doctors. No need for follow up Colonoscopy then?.

Funny.  My dad had a defective heart valve.....was repaired (not replaced, but repaired....a much less invasive and preferred procedure) by a surgeon at the U of MN.  My sister's mother in law just had a quadruple bypass.  My massage gal was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a double mastectomy, and has already had her plastic surgery (looks terrific and they are pretty sure they got all the cancer).
    Every disease is emotion based.

    Even heart disease?

There is no doubt many doctors are quick to write a prescription and send you on your way.  But if that happens to you, get another doctor.  They aren't all like that.

There is a reason they call it "practicing" medicine.  No one knows all the answers.

And I_Need_Detox, everyone's chemistry is different.  My gal takes paxil and it works great for her.  Didn't work for me.  My sister is on a combo. of Welbutrin and Lexapro and she says she feels absolutely terrific. One of my sisters takes something in the winter for seasonal affective disorder, but is fine in the summer.

It IS a bit of a guessing game, but if you don't try, you're never going to see any improvement.

FYI, I went to a mental health professional when I was having problems and she basically laughed at me.  She said, "therapy isn't going to help you.....I don't see any sign that you have issues that can be cured through any sort of therapy.  You have a chemistry issue IMO."

Think about it.  My mom takes medication because she doesn't have a thyroid.  How is that any different?  It just so happens her deficiency is related to metabolism.....some are related to brain functioning.  Why is that so taboo?
