I cannot believe this BS. You have got to be kidding me.  Now watch other cities follow. 

It wont last long because a lot of businesses will close. Not sure why people think they deserve a decent wage for unskilled labor.

Way, way too many loop holes. I hate the way every law today have a dozen "exceptions" built in. And why not implement it 1 Jan??? This is the law, except in this case and unless this applies with the exception of this circumstance and under these conditions and on and on and on... Either the minimum wage is $15 an hour or it isn't... I would love to have electrodes hooked up to the council members chairs and every time one of the @ssholes starts muddying the water I get to flip a switch to remind them of the concept of simplicity...

Not sure I would advertise that as "skilled"-
But to each his own.....

And you're right about the safety measures-don't stick your hand in hot oil, stay away from the flame, watch out for wet floors...

Any job you can pretty much learn in its entirety in a day is what I consider "unskilled". Of course you have to have half a brain to do anything, but you can't learn how to fix an engine, do brain surgery, work on computers, run a business etc in a day. Those things take month or years to master. Flippin burgers, takin out the trash and hitting a couple keys to place an order dont quite fit the bill of being skilled....

If tomorrows training includes a video or you have to wear flair, chances are you arent the head of the class at MIT .

And towards the end of the article to the lady saying she has worked at domino's for 5 years and thinks she deserves a raise....no you don't. They could drop you and hire someone with no experience to reproduce your tasks in two to three days. That is why it is termed "unskilled labor."

I appreciate her efforts and I understand the difficulties of the job market but for the article to emphasize "She even has to open and close the store sometimes" I mean come on. No one wants to pay $40 for a large pizza because low level workers would like a raise just because they have been their a long time. Domino's does not care about you nor do they value you as an employee. Their business plan does not support these kinds of changes nor will it ever. Time to move on.

Cost of living is very high in some areas of the country, Seattle is one of them.

That's about an extra $12k monthly expense for a dominos.  That should wipe out most if not all of a location's net profit. 

If minimum wage goes up, number of employees will go down. Simple economics. These businesses arent gonna stay open to break even.

 This has been a topic of contention for a while now up here. I don't agree with it. If you want to make a living wage then work your way to it. Minimum wage jobs aren't supposed to be a career.

What happens to the guys making a decent $18 or so when the minimum wage was $9.xx.

 Exactly.  Some people go to school and spend money on an education and make 17 or 18 bucks an hour.  I would be very pissed if I was in their shoes.  Plus this is not good for the local economy.  Many will be laid off and companies will ask employees to do more with less staff.  So less people will be employed and prices go up. This is pretty simple but the idiots that voted this in are too stupid to realize this and are probably just trying to get votes.  SO, I guess those who make 15 bucks an hour now are going to try and get raises because some burger flipper makes just as much as them. This is going to get interesting but we all know how it will end up.  

not one guy in this thread would turn down a burger flipping job at 15 beans an hour...... not one.

I always hear about "Well what would the price of a hamburger cost if they raised minimum wage?"
Keep in mind the person always saying that was born with a silver spoon in their mouth or was handed a job through family or a friend. They tend to have the most to say about things they know nothing about from their own experiences.

I have said to them for many......Their $7.25 hr wont buy a hamburger at many places. And combos.....fagettaboutit!
Burgers used to cost a nickel(news flash!!!)
