Las Vegas is a ghetto. It's a dirty city with subhuman, lowlife people everywhere you look. Downtown is disgusting and that's why locals don't go there. The tourists go one time and can't wait to leave.
Th Strip has become run down. There's crime everywhere on the Strip but you won't hear about it because if it get's put on the news or in the paper, it may scare the tourists away. The Convention and Visitors Autority controls what's released about Las Vegas. If you try walking on the Strip, you'll be bombarded with street performers, peddlers and Juan and Pedro shoving escort service flyers in your face.
I have no idea why hard working people spend their money and use their vacation time to come to a shithole like Las Vegas.

I disagree. I have been to Vegas 50 times over the last 30 years. I do agree downtown is a shit hole. Enough said. I also agree downtown, there are safety issues.
On the strip though, despite the peddlers of porn, I have never felt unsafe or in danger. I have always thought for the volume of people there, it is clean and well lit. I have never even seen dangerous activity. Security in the casinos is on top of things and professional. One night when I was over served (i.e. to drunk to stand (my fault)), I was professionally and courteously taken to my room to sleep it off.
Vegas is a great town for gambling, eating, drinking and catching a show or two. Your post is off base. There are many world class hotels and dining establishments. Some of the greatest performers in the world call this town home. Lighten up

Come here on your next trip and go off the strip 3 miles and go into a super market or one of the malls and tell me you dont get begged for money and dont say to yourself " wow these people look like fucking losers".
The influx of southern californians is the REAL ruination of lv, and check the customer service in the casinos, very bad and I am always curteous to the workers.
Since the NBA all star game was here its been down hill.

It seems that the people in this thread really know and see the "real" Las Vegas. I've been playing cards and betting on sports since I was 8 years old. My first trip was to Vegas was a few weeks during the first round of the NFL playoffs. I have to say that it was NOTHING as to what I expected. I stayed in "Rome" (it was some US Air vacation deal I could not pass up). By no means am I a picky person, but the room was average (although I spend little time there), customer service was average at best, and the part that pissed me off the most was that I could not wager more than $20,000 on a football game!!! I brought out 80k in cash planning to put it all on the Steelers -8.5 (like an idiot). I walk up to the sports book window at Caesar's Palace and say I'd like to put 80k on the Steelers -8.5 and the "supervisor" looked at me like I had 3 eyes. "We can't take bets that high" he said. "Is this not Las Vegas, Nevada, the gaming capitol of the world?", I said. I was very pissed. I thought that's what Vegas was for. I flew 3,000 miles to place a simple legal wager and they say, "no, we can't". Now I understand that the average person isn't betting 80k on a game, but holy shit, this is Vegas???? I could go on and on, but I have to say, Vegas was not even close to what I thought it was going to be.
I guess the only question I would have for you people who live there is: Where can you go and place large wagers (20k and up and preferably with without paperwork)?

Are You for real? Sportsbettors from all over the east coast will flock to AC on Saturday and Sunday to bet football games. One problem I do see is allowing sports to be bet at racetracks. If I live in NY or north jersey there is no chance that I would travel to AC to bet games if I can bet those games at the Meadowlands. Also, I've heard that you will have to sign up for a sportsbetting account at a casino using a players card also, you will only be allowed to bet if you have a card and you will be limited to $1000 per 24 hour time period so if you want to bet 2k on the Super Bowl you'll be out of luck. But the way I see it some type of sportsbetting is better than none.

Go to the Bellagio and tell them what you want to bet and they'll get the Sports Book manager to ok it. Provided you have ID with Social due to regulations called Title 31. I've seen wagers up to $150K placed there.
Just don't go to the Stations for anything. Worst sports book in Vegas.

To answer your question you may want to try LUCKY'S at the Riviera as Jimmy Vaccaro is old school and has some guts to gamble.
Caesars Palace is a Harrahs property so they are basically "chicken shit" of any large wager.
One Harrahs gets a hold of a sports book thats pretty much the end. The Imperial Palace is a perfect example although the IP was sent downwards in February of 2006 when Mike the poker room manager became the supposed sportsbook "manager" but after his ineptness was uncovered by Chuck Dirocco, Harrahs took over for good and that was the end of the IP .
Also you can go to Harrahs and see their supervisor who doesnt even know how to bet, he is a bald headed retard( sorry rets) who caused a stirr one night with one of the LV-RJ reporters cancelling tickets after they were paid for.

Yavapai - Thanks so much for your information. It's clear you know how Vegas works (from the inside out). I might fly back out for the Superbowl. If I do I will sure take your advice and give Lucky's a shot. Worse case situation would be that I have to go to 3 or 4 different books and split it up. Is "Jimmy Vaccaro" a sports book manager at "Lucky's"?

Straw, Jimmy Vaccarro is the race and sports director at luckys and was one of the pioneers in the 70's of being a real sports book manager( he was at the Mirage) and took very large wagers.
You may want to try the Venetian for some SB props as they are run by Cantor Gaming and do a very POOR job at their "numbers" and have the numbers either too high or low.
An example was last weeks prop in the conf final was Benjarvis Green Ellis rushing yards o/u 27 1/2 yards. That was ridiculously low, and last year they had a prop on the 4 teams playing in the conf finals and would any score 7 points or less? How stupid was that prop, like any team was not going to score over 7 , I kicked them in the nuts on that one also.

I would say he is more 'shaped' like Danny DeVito, but yeah, he's there. Saw him ripping into his employee this morning, then waddling back under his bridge to sit on his fat ass.

Yeah but guys like us dont go 3 miles out or even a mile out for that matter. We save our money and enjoy the luxeries that there are many of in Vegas. I get it its trash on the outside but we visit the inside and enjoy it quite a bit. So regardless how dumb you think it is allin69 that is what some of us enjoy. No one has the luxery of walking into a sportsbook and putting bets it. The fact we can do that and get a free drink is pretty fucking cool for some of us. You guys clearly take it for granted.

Most of these observations are spot on. Not only has that city become a complete fucking dump, even the cops are breaking balls over trivial bullshit to generate revenue. Been visiting there for 30+ years and would have never imagined that a city that prided itself (and depended) on customer service and satisfaction would deteriorate into the pathetic shithole it has become.

I agree that Vegas has declined dramatically. While I still enjoy visiting it's not close to the experience it used to be. The books seem to offer up only the most popular games and the parlay options suck. I can hardly ever seem to find odds on most of the fights that I can bet online, and on one occasion after betting around 4k on a fight, When I asked for cocktails I was only given 2 drink vouchers to be used at the sportsbook bar on that given date, wtf? And if I bring my girlfriend along with me, a confrontation is almost a given. I can't stand all of the disrepectful assholes sitting around the casino doing nothing but trying to get at females that they will never get. But with that being said I will continue to come back as it's the only place around to walk up and place cash bets. Unless you want to go to TJ but that's a whole other can of worms.
