The overall message is a good one. I also like the fact that they demonize low fat products. They still seem to be scared of saturated fat though.
Two things bother me about this article. The first is this line "Like carbohydrates and protein, fat is an essential nutrient." This statement is incorrect. Carbohydrates are not an essential nutrient in humans.
The second thing is near the bottom of the first page. The sentence "Just make sure most of your fat intake is unsaturated, eat red meat only once or twice a week, and use olive oil instead of butter when possible." bothers me because they just told us that fat is good earlier in the article and now they are saying that we should limit red meat to one or twice a week and use olive oil instead of butter.

Both of those things stuck out to me as well. Making progress though. The thing, like Dirt said, is how many poeple will be willing to accept what is being said here, and actually make changes to their life style? Probably not many.![]()

yeah, they just can't seem to give any credit to saturated fat yet they don't give any reasoning for why one should avoid it or limit it to a small percentage of your fat intake.

the worst part of the thread, is squid don't know how to properly hyperlink,,,,,,,
couple things that stood out to me
why wouldn't the fat you consume wind up as the fat you see on your butt and thighs? But "the low-fat diet backfired," says Frank Hu, MD, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. "America's obesity epidemic skyrocketed even while our fat intake went down." So experts are getting off the "fat is evil" bandwagon these days? — and we should, too.
,,,,,,time to admit they are wrong and change course? bravo
Do you guys agree that 4:1 is a healthy omega 6:3 ratio?
If you're getting the multiple servings of milk you should each day, consider making some of it low fat to keep saturated fat and calories down
"I just make sure that the fats I eat come from healthy food sources? like vegetable oils,
which vegetable oils are the healthy ones?

i don't know, we generally use olive oil, coconut oil and butter. i made my wife throw out all of the canola/vegetable oil products we had.
but one thing i did like which i'm doing more of. i still like to eat dessert a few nights a week. i buy the dark chocolate bars, usually in the 70% cocao range, and break off a few squares after dinner.

Glad you got rid of the canola/veg oil as those are very high in omega 6. If you enjoy dessert then dark chocolate is a good option because it is low in sugar and you only need to eat a few squares to feel satisfied.

I think anywhere from 4:1 up to 1:1 of omega 6 to omega 3 is ideal. The standard American diet gives anywhere from 15:1 to 20:1. This type of ratio results in high amounts of inflammation in the body.
