Corn Syrup/High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

Ok, so been checking out the dangers and side affects of corn syrup.  I never knew how many food and drink products corn syrup is in.  I did some googling and found some interesting information.  Corn syrup doesn't break down like natural sugars and causes some serious fat problems to be kicked back out into the blood stream, causing heart disease and causing pimples.  I have been breaking out the last couple of years like a teenager and I couldn't figure out why.  I exercise regularly and eat a little better than most.  I don't drink a lot of soda so I couldn't figure out why.  I've wondered about artificial sweetners for a long time and found out about corn syrup causing problems.  There is also Sulfite in corn syrup. This gives items longer shelf life and causes the pores to clog, thus the pimples and causes other side affects like headaches.  I recently cleaned my frig and cubbard and am going to cut corn syrup completely out of my diet.  It's been two days and my breaking out seems to be clearing up.  I will continue to moniter but I think I'm on to something.  Corn syrup is a lot cheaper than sugar.  That seems to be why the food manufacturers are using it and the FDA does nothing to stop it...seems a little fishy to me with all of the problems and deseases it is suspected of causing.

My wife is an absolute health nut.  So, here's what she summarizes about HFCS.  It's not good for you.  It's not the way sugar was intended to be.  Food industry doesn't care about our health, they will do what it takes to cut costs.  Not natural to the body.

Make sure you do your best to read all labels aside from the obvious foods such as cookies, granola bars, soda.  Even foods were you wouldn’t expect to find sugar, such as baked goods, breads and other foods which people consider to be healthy and low in calories have HFCS.

Absolutely. Acne would be a non-issue to  most people if they cut out sodas and other products with lots of corn syrup.

It is used as a cheap way to make a small amount of food into a larger amount, that's why it is in almost everything.

What are the foods and drinks out there that do not contain HFCS and instead natural sugar?

One easy substitution for me was syrup. You guy any Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Buttersworth, etc., you're gonna end up with HFCS.

However, if you buy REAL MAPLE SYRUP, guess what? Real syrup is just that. Real syrup. Of course, it does cost more. But I'm not having pancakes/waffles every day. Bicuits, tops, once a week.

The corn industry in this country is heavily subsidized by the government and the sugar industry heavily punished by the government. 

Much, much cheaper to use HFCS instead of importing sugar.

Avoid hfcs like the plague.  Avoid artificial sweeteners like the plague.  sugar is the least of the evils even though there is nothing 'natural' about sugar.  sugar is still refined/processed from sugar cane.  honey would be a better choice, but americans consume way too much sugar.  WAY TOO MUCH.
