TCU was a better team last yr than VT is this yr, and Boise won.  Oh yea, and everyone is back for Boise pretty much.  BSU all day.

    TCU on a neutral field....

VT in front of 100,000 fans

Boise offense scored 10 pts in that, 7 of them because of a trick play...

Not totally seeing your point D.

It's not like they impressed anybody vs. TCU. That entire game people were bitching and complaining about how much both teams suck. Now everyone just remembers the final score and feels like Boise dominated the game. I agree last years TCU team is better than this years VT team, but it is not by much. On offense, VT is far superior to that TCU squad and its not even close. TCU was about that much better on defense though. So we will see which side breaks. But to claim BSU all day just comparing how they played against TCU is assanine.

Totally disagree with you on this. TCU was better offensively in my opinion. I will agree that VT has better running backs but TCU's weren't bad. I would have to say that Dalton is actually better than Tyrod and at best thats even. TCU's receivers and offensive line are actually better than VT's are.

I will agree with you that comparing how the TCU/Boise game went won't have much to do with how this game plays out.

And just so everyone knows, if this is on a neutral field there is no doubt I'd be on the Broncos. However, all the stars are aligning for my Hokies here

         sure man.... sure

Bibendi is right .... (seems like I've already said this somewhere)....every reason to think Boise will struggle to move the football

Remember ......they put up big numbers vs an unbelievable assortment of terrible D's...last 2 years this crew has played against 3 tough D's.....

    1)   TCU '08.....(bowl)...16 points......1 off TD.....250 yds TO.....4.6/play
    2)   TCU '09....(bowl)....17 points.....1 off TD.....317 TO.....4.5/play
    3)   Ducks '09....(home)...19 points.....2 off TD's...361 TO.... 2.8/rush.....4.1/play

    * yes Ducks D not bad last year (give up yards because on field too much)....Boise had 42.5 > 17.5 TOP edge < DAMN....Hokie D should compare favorably with Ducks LY....smaller/fast ....multiple fronts......and should present the same type problems (Moore looked like shit.....I was at that game)

Boise OL should be strong...and very experienced....BUT....not quite as much as being talked about.....actually the starting line-up vs Hokies should have (2) that were listed as starters  LY....and one will be playing new position

    C >    T. Byrd started every game LY.....BUT Soph Joe Kellogg (1 start)....is running with 1st team
and should start....Byrd off injury and in/out Peterson's doghouse
RG > Sr Will Lawrence started 14 LY
RT > starter Pendergast battling injuries ...and is doubtful.....Soph Michael Ames  likely starter (8 st LY)....Soph Myers b/u
LG  > Nate Potter started at LT last year......all-conf player......but 1st time at guard (struggled in spring)
LT  >  Soph Wright likely starter ...(zero starts I believe).....rFr Leno possibility....

    side note....Boise has sold 7,000 tickets.....out of 64,000 or so sold.....(capacity 91,000)
It is better to be feared - than to be loved.

LT  >  Soph Wright likely starter ...(zero starts I believe).....rFr Leno possibility....

    side note....Boise has sold 7,000 tickets.....out of 64,000 or so sold.....(capacity 91,000)

I am going to be on VT. I have been a bit surprised about all the love Boise is receiving from gamblers discussing this.
My opinion is this- VT is basically playing at home, 70% of the fans will be backing VT.
VT- Tyrod Taylor at QB, Sr. year. The guy only threw 5 picks last year. He is smart with the football and one hell of an athlete, if you have a 3rd n 6 situation he can easily make a LB miss or get to the sticks to move the chains. I am sure he has matured even more in the offseason. The RB's are maybe top in the nation, Williams can fly, a true gamebreaker. I dont think Boise has played against a back like him last year except for Ryan Mathews who went off.... Then you add a beefed up Darren Evans who can pound it and slash. I think the game will be won here. Boise having trouble containing Williams, Evans and Tyrod Taylor making plays with his feet for 60 minutes. VT has capable WR's returning and the OL being solid. Defensively, I think this is were people are leaning to Boise. VT will have athletes on D like always. And special teams?? well you dont have the advantage over VT, sorry.
Boise gave up 35 pts to La Tech last year,33 to Nevada, 34 to Fresno. YEah Boise put up a ton on them too but I do not think any of these 3 teams could combine defensively and equal anything close to the athletes lining up on D for VT.
I love the Boise coach, he is excellent but I think they are running into a perfect storm- VT home field adv, stud RB's, a solid QB that can make plays with his feet, the X on boise's chest, people doubting VT.
I will take VT and the points and also go smaller on the over.
    prediction VT 34-BOISE 24

I would greatly appreciate any some back n forth here, see if anyone agrees/disagrees..

TCU was better than Boise last year, but TCU was disappointed to be playing Boise again.  How anticlimactic it was to play the same team they beat in a bowl the year before for a chance to prove nothing after going 12-0.

VPI is better than Iowa; Iowa is one of the more overrated teams this year.  And Iowa doesn't kill anyone.  They win 2 games by more than 12 points last year.

before the line came out, I thought VT -3

When I saw Boise -3, I think that line smells and says Boise wins...the line alone stinks.

I would not bet the game as Beamer Ball is no joke and its a coin flip.  Boise will not come to Fed Ex and abuse VT

No offense but if you thought that they higher ranked team in every poll (Boise St) would be an underdog, maybe there is something wrong with how you view these games.  I think the line would be shady if V Tech was favored  Boise returns almost all starters from an undefeated team while V Tech has several question marks on defense.  Why would u think Tech would be favored by 3?  Because it is close to their home?  If anything it would be a pick em, not V Tech by 3

Bibs...what's this VT record I saw somewhere something like 1-13 against BCS competition? Or did I just dream that? You have any idea?

Normally I wouldn't consider Boise BCS competition but Boise is indeed BCS competition and as you know return damn near the whole team. I do think Va Tech can and will run on this team but would love to get a 3 spot.We gonna need that?

They are something like 1-15 against top 5 opponents on neutral sites or away from home. But honestly, who doesnt have a horrible record when they play good teams away from home? I think that stat is incredibly overrated. We wont get to 3, in fact we may be favored by kick...

no B23 that stat is not  overrated.. boise state is 10-3 in it;s last 13 road games and no way tech go;s favored  by kickoff ,,the broncos no in order to have any chance of a national title game they have to take care of bussiness in week one or the season is over...boise has the better younger coaching staff the better qb the better recivers,, the better D..I  will give tech a big edge in the running game and special teams are close because beamer ball is not what it used to be ...i know it;s been a lot made about this being a home game for tech but boise want be intimitaded at all ...ask the 07 sooners squad about that..boise ranked number 3 in the AP for a reason and the way florida texas and the sooners played saturday..they will not be passing boise...plus when the canes go in to the horses shoe and beat ohio state next weekend boise will be ranked number 2 behind bama....boise wins this game 27-23.......

Agree with almost all your points but when you got to the part that Hurricanes will go into the shoe and beat the Buckeyes outright, you kind of lost me there.  If Ohio St and Alabama continue to win, #3 is as high as you'll see Boise St this season, and rightfully so, because of their schedule.  BOL

That stat is not overrated?  Sigh.  As I posted in another thread...

Take a look at some of the losses and tell me how many other schools would have done better against the top 5 competition.  2009 national champ Alabama. 2007 national champ LSU. 2004 undefeated Auburn. 2001 national champ Miami.  2002 national runner up Miami.  2000 national champ FSU. 1997 UNC team that was stacked and should have been in a bigger bowl game.  Anybody who thinks that 2010 BSU is equal to any of those teams is insane.

BSU has a young coaching staff?  So what.  They also lost their defensive coordinator.  Meanwhile VT has one of the most stable coaching staffs in the country, which is very important for developing players in a system.  And please stop bringing up a game from 3 years ago when they beat Oklahoma.  Yes it was a great game and I rooted for Boise, but one game doesn't make a program.

Once again, I'm not trying to tell people how to bet.  I'm just trying to counter some of these ridiculous statements that make Boise seem like one of the greatest teams in college football history and make VT seem like some WAC cupcake.

Man I'm ready for some VT football.  I hate being the last game of opening weekend.  Let's get it on!!!

After HOURS of reading this thread, here the BOTTOM LINE:  if you like VT take the points, if you like Boise then lay the 2 points.  Don't over analyze it too much.  I'm pretty sure when you seen this line opened, you already had your pick.
