Rankings are such BS!

Comparing MLB to NCAA football is like comparing apples to oranges.  As for the NFL playoff system, could you imagine college football teams resting a bunch of their starters (like what happens in week 16 of the NFL) if they have a two game lead in their conference? There are so many regular season college football games that have such memorable value..........the same can't be said of any other sport.  It has to be largely because they have no playoff system.

If they aren't in the conversation, why let them compete for the national championship?

Because all 8 or 16 teams have a chance now.  The current system only gives 2 teams a chance to win.  That's more of a pre determined champion.  Team A, or Team B.  That's not even close to being fair for the other teams.  If your ranked #1 in the pre season poll, and your schedule is descent, and you don't lose, you're in!  That's crazy. 

I'll just never agree with a groups opinion (polls) to decide the championship.  In college, the opinion is always going to be there.  Don't get me wrong.  It should still be there.  After all, that the way college sports are.  The group should put 16 teams together, and let the PLAYERS decide who wins it all.  Anything over 16 is probably not going to bring a championship to them anyways.

What's pisses me off about people who don't want a playoff is the idea that if you go undefeated that makes you the best team in college football. What is says to me is that you played 2 or 3 games that were against a decent opponent and 8 or 9 games against weak teams you should blow out. So only 2 or 3 games in the entire regular season were against real competition. So you play 2 or 3 games that matter and 8 or 9 games that were uncompetitive and meant nothing at all and proved absolutly nothing. Just target practice. Basically practice/pointless/preseason games. Not every game matters just the 2 or 3 games against decent competition. That makes 8 or 9 games pointless and a waste of time.

It's basically 9 or 10 preseason games and 2 or 3 playoff games that were computer generated and man made by a popularity contest? And if you lose 1 fluky game and your the best team in college football. That means the rest of your 11 games on your schedule mean absolutely nothing. I believe there is not a single team in college football that can beat boise state on the smurf turf. Not a single one can beat them but we will never know because college football is scripted reality tv drama. What's the point of cheering for your team if your team doesn't have a shot at the championship? In the NFL you can argue every week who you think is the best team in football and we all know that every argument will be decided on the field not by a computer or a popularity contest.

  Every game matters.

 

1)  How fair would it be for a visiting team to play a playoff game at Boise, Idaho in December?  At least with the way it is now, the championship is decided on a somewhat neutral field. (Although, playing LSU in New Orleans might be a stretch).

2) Every game does matter. (Ask Oklahoma or Wisconsin)

3) Under a 8 or 16 team playoff, would the upper half of the rated playoff teams host a game? (not fair), or would they be played at neutral sites? (attendance and travel issues).  Seems like most people who want a playoff haven't thought the issue fully through.

It's not necessarily that we are against playoffs, it's more about the pro-playoffs haven't come up with a plan that looks very appealing. Heck the pro-playoffs can't even agree on what exactly they want. You have those that want a +1, those that want 4 team playoffs, 6, 8, 16... Make up your mind and come up with ONE idea, until then there won't be a strong enough push. And until those "super conferences" are formed there won't be a playoff and rightfully so.

1. The packers and giants won super bowls all on the road in bad weather and far away from there home town fans and the super bowl was far away also. I don't understand the travel issues argument. People will find a way to get there.

2. When the sooners played ball state and tulsa those games mattered and when wisconsin played south dakota and northern illinois those games said they are championship material? Every game does matter?

I listed the only 72 teams that have respectable football programs now and at one time in the past. These 72 teams are the only teams that should play each other. Notice i didn't list ball state, tulsa, south dakota or northern illinois. The other 168 i didn't list are the teams that should never face the top 72 teams EVER but they do every year. There should be 2 leagues one for the 72 realistic championship contender college teams and one for the other 168 weaker no shot at ever contending for a title teams. College teams should not have the right to create their own schedule. A committee should make a base schedule and then make teams rotate to make sure everyone plays everyone.

They should take these 72 teams and make super conferences. How a playoff is created i still don't know. So many teams and having a 12 game schedule it's hard to make a playoff grid but i am pretty sure it can be done. I just hate the fact that TCU beats Wisconsin and shows the Big Ten that they are worthy of a BCS Title Game and that Boise State never get's a chance to show that they would have beaten Alabama, LSU, Florida, Ohio State or Oregon on primetime. I believe kellen moore would tear those teams apart on a primetime stage but we will never know because the way the system is set up.

The games and the season would be better and more exciting. Plus the poinspreads would be realistic. How to make it happen? Well that's a really complex question to answer.

When the small school plays the big school, they receive several hundered thousand dollars.  This money funds all of the small schools athletics.  If you get rid of these games, then many schools would have to cancel most of their athletic programs.

You take the 168 teams and make their own super conferences and have their own playoff grid. You could make a ton on advertising all over. They could make their jersey's look like nascar and indy car drivers. It's easy to find sponsors. Create tv contracts for small schools to be televised and the casinos and books would have even more games to make a profit off of and more games for us to bet on as well.
